Land - they sold land |
1713 |
tract A121, east of Modest Town, Accomack Co, Virginia [2] |
- In 1689 Daniel Jenifer alone sold 300 acres to Martha Eyre, the widow of Benjamin; the land was partly above the Scarburgh purchase, being in the little neck formed by the two branches of Hog Neck Creek, but it extended northwest along the Justice land to the back line of the Jenifer acreage. The deed was to Martha for her life and then to her son Reginall Eyre, and in his will of 1709 he signed his name Regnold and left the property to his sisters Elizabeth and Martha. Nothing more was found recorded about the latter, so Elizabeth inherited the whole and she was married twice, first to John Abdill and then to William Stott, both of Northampton. In 1713 John and Elizabeth Abdill sold 160 acres to John Tankard, comprising the part east of the preent road. In 1749 John Tankard (wife Elizabeth) left to his son Stephen. However, the land later was recovered by daughters of Elizabeth (Whitelaw errored by saying they were by a previous marriage as he later stated they were Abdill daughter) and in 1752 Luke and Elizabeth Fortesque and Jeremiah and Rachel Ashby, the wives being Abdill daughters, sold the same land to William Jackson; the next year John and Elizabeth Dickson(sic) deeded their interest to Jackson, Elizabeth having been the daughter of Mary Stott, who also was an Abdill daughter.
