- On January 25, 1804, Zadok Purnell of Thomas of Queponco Hundred of the one part and Milby Purnell of the other, witness that the said Zadok Purnell for the sum of $1 sells to the said Milby S. Purnell a negro boy named Jacob, ten years old, as a slave. Witnessed by Nixon Davis (1804 bill of sale, Worcester Co. Orphans Court, Deed Book W, p.101, FHL #0014543)
On June 23, 1804 Zadok Purnell of the one part and Milby Purnell (Junior) of the other, witness that the said Zadok Purnell for the sum of 5 shillings sold to the said Milby Purnell one young mare named Peg, one sucking colt, one bridle & saddle, one hand mill, five Windsor chairs, one walnut table, falling leaf, one bed and furniture, one horse ten years old and one mare ten years old. - Zadock signed a power of attorney in 1810: " Dear Sir; This is to inform you that I have given my son Milby Purnell full power and authority to bind my son William Purnell from the first day of January 1811 for the term of four years this given from under my hand this 22 day of December 1810. Testis present Sarah Purnell." (Worcester Co. Orphans Court 1809-1812, p. 340, FHL #0014577)
An apprenticeship July 19, 1811: "This indenture whereas Zadok Purnell has authorized his son Milby Purnell to bind out as an apprentice his the said Zadok Purnell's son William Purnell to apprentice with Timothy Irons tanner and currier to learn his art, trade and mystery until January 1, 1815.
