This land would have been the southwestern half of 300 acres acres of land that Bartholomew Mears owned, on the northeastern side of Beaver Dam Branch, located on present day maps in the Trower-Frogstool area of Acc Co, west of Wachapreague.

  	He was probably the John Mears who served with Virginia Troops in the French and Indian War. The name is on the roll of officers and soldiers who engaged in services of the colony before the Battle of the Meadows in 1754. Returns made at Wills Creek, 8 July 1754, carry the name John Mears, Hogg's Company and a number of others who were from Accomack.
