- In his will John Poulson directed that my Exrs. hereafter named to bring up & raise all my children from the profits arising from my whole estate until my son Erastus Poulson arrives to lawful Age & then to son Erastus all the land & plantation where I now live, together with 50 acres in Hack Swamp. To son John Poulson my water grist mill & saw mill. To son Thomas all that tract of land where Joseph (free negro) now lives. To daughter Polly Poulson $1000. Should my son Erastus die before arriving to lawful age or marriage, the land & other things given him to descend to my next eldest son, & that part of my estate given to my son who may survive the said Erastus to descend to the survivor or survivors of my said other children. To daughter Polly all her mother's wearing apparel. To Zadock Poulson 1/9 of all the crop that is made on my planta, this year, provided he continues on said plantation & does his duty as a Crops man. All the remainder of my est when my son Erastus arrives to lawful age to be equally divided between the survivors or survivor of my children, except the one who may own the plantation where I now live. Children to be kept together until Erastus arrives to lawful age, & that with their grandmother Nancy Dix if she choose to take them & remains single. - In a land cause ejectment proceeding, John M. Poulson vs. West, it was brought out that James Dix, late of this county, was in his lifetime and at the time of his death, seized in his demesne as of fee in a certain plantation and tract of land near the head of Metmopkin Creek, and being so seized departed this life on the ___ day of ___ 1800, under the age of 21 years, intestate & without issue, leaving your orator and a certain Erastus Poulson his nephews & heirs at law, they being the sons of Polly Poulson, formerly Polly Dix, who was a sister to the said James Dix; since the death of the said James Dix, on the ___ day of ___ 1806 the said Erastus Poulson conveyed to the said John West, late of this county, the whole of the said tract of land containing by estimation 150 acres, although he was only entitled to 1/2 of said tract, the other 1/2 of which belonged to your orator; on the 20 Sep 1910, the said John West, having formerly entered upon and become possessed of the premises, departed this life intestate, leaving John & Harret West, infants, who are prayed to be made defendants to this suit, his children and heirs at law (Patience West appointed their guardian to defend this suit); at the death of the said James Dix, Anne Duncan, formerly Ann Dix, who was the widow of John Dix, was entitled to 1/3 of the said plantation as her dower during her life, and on the ___ day of Jun 1812, the said Anne Duncan departed this life &c.

- William Silverthorn & Susanna, his wife, formerly Susanna Dickerson, assignees of Thomas Fletcher vs Poulson - In Debt - Suit for sale of land. That a certain Henry Custis late of this county on the 4 July 1802, being indebted to a certain Fletcher of this county, as administrator of Leah Dickerson, for the purpose of securing the payment of same conveyed to the said Thomas Fletcher a certain tract of land containing 30 acres, situate on the head of Guilford Creek; that the said Henry Custis departed this life intestate on the ____ day of Dec. 1809(sic), leaving a daughter Tabitha his only child & heir at law; that the said Tabitha Custis on the ____ day of Oct. 1807, intermarried with a certain Erastus Poulson, and on the ____ day of May 1815, the said Tabitha Poulson departed this life leaving her husband Erastus Poulson and two children, viz: John & Edward A. Poulson living; that on the ____ day of May 1815, your orator was married to your oratrix, &c. 30 Oct. 1815. (NOTE: Other information recorded in the Acc-N'hamp Bible Record Collection shows he died on 2 Dec 1802 and administration on his estate was dated 28 Feb 1803.)

- In his will George P. Bagwell gave to son Thomas Bagwell the land on which I now reside containing 206 acres & 20 acres of swamp land, being part of the land I purchased of John M. Poulson, adjoining the heirs of Revell Dix & Negro man Charles, one boy Kiah, ... 1/3 of my water grist & saw mill & 1/3 of 7 acres adjoining Poulson's mill. To daughter Margaret R. Bagwell the land I purchased of Thomas Cropper being the land formerly of George Bundick & 20 acres in the swamp it being part of the land I purchased of John M. Poulson adjoining son Thomas Bagwell & Negro boy Henry & one girl Ibby & one bureau. Extr. to pursue the Suit in Chancery against Thomas Cropper to recover a deficiency in the quantity of land I purchased of him. To daughter Margaret 1/3 part of water grist & sawmill & 1/3 of 7 acres adjoining Poulson's mills. To wife Margaret ... & my Negro woman Rose & at my wife's death or marriage Rose to be free or the liberty to serve any of my children if she will not accept her freedom. If my wife claims her dower in my mill at Assawoman & the 22 acres in the same neighborhood, my son Thomas & my daughter Margaret, out of the estate devised to them, shall pay to the trustees herein appointed for my daughter Sarah P. Burton & her children a sum annually equal to the annual value of the dower so claimed to be applied to the use of my daughter Sarah & her children. Abraham Crippen, free Negro, should have the house & lot he now occupies during his life by paying $1 annually rent & upon his death the house to go to my Negro man Solomon & Sabra his wife during their life & then to the trustees of my daughter Sarah P. Burton. Negroes Abel, Solomon & Sabra his wife to be free on the condition now prescribed by law, otherwise the said Negroes shall be at liberty to serve which of my children they please. To friend William Bagwell & to my son Thomas Bagwell in trust for the use of my daughter Sarah P. Burton & her children, that tract of land on which John B. Burton now resides & the residue of that tract of land which I purchased of John M. Poulson of which I devised to my son Thomas & daughter Margaret 20 acres each, the residue to be about 100 acres. To said trustees my water grist mill & 22 acres near the head of Assawoman Creek & my Negro woman Nanny & Easter & boy Colly & the property conveyed to me by John B. Burton to receive the payment for his bonds for $873.78 dated 2 Jun 1821 for the use of my daughter Sarah P. Burton during her natural life without her husband, the said John B. Burton, having any control over the same. My trustees to pay Revell Twiford the annuity of $15 which he is entitled for his interest in the land above devised to said trustees. To granddaughter Elizabeth Sarah Poulson the land on which Erastus Poulson now resides containing 76 aces & 1/3 of my water grist & saw mill called Poulson's mills & 1/3 of 7 acres adjoining thereto & Negro girl Edy & woman Mahala. Wife Margaret & son Thomas Extrs. Witt: Isaiah Bagwell & William Bagwell. Codicil: 6 Feb 1826 - Negro man Littleton to be free on 1 Jan 1830. Negro man Moses to be free on 1 Jan 1837. Or they can serve any one of my children. Witt: Isaiah Bagwell & William Bagwell. Prob: Partly proved by William Bagwell with William Bagwell, Sebastian Cropper & Alexander McCollom securities. Fully proved by Isaiah Bagwell. On 26 Jul 1830 Thomas P. Bagwell, one of the Extrs. gave bond with John U. Custis, Thomas B. Custis, Thomas Custis Jr. & Thomas Lilliston securities.
