  	Benjamin Cottman and his wife Mary immigrated into Maryland from Northumberland County, VA in 1672. He had bought tract Taunton Deane on the south side of the Wicomico Creek two years earlier and acquired other lands on both sides of Wicomico Creek. He had married Mary Thomas, daughter of William and Elizabeth Thomas of Northumberland Co, VA.

In 1708 Benjamin Nesham willed to wife (unnamed) her dower rights.

The Somerset County rent rolls of 1666-1723 shows it was possessed by Benjamin Nesham who married the widow Cottman, 50 acres. On 31 Oct 1734 Benjamin Cottman gave to Benjamin Cottman Jr (the younger), now of Pennsylvania, 50 acres. On 7 Feb 1743 Benjamin Cottman the younger, of Philadelphia County, PA, sold to Joseph Cottman of Somerset County, 236 acres (50 acres of Cottmans Point and Tanton Deane). 1783 tax list showed Joseph Cottman was charged with 50 acres. In 1819 it was resurveyed to Mt. Pleasant 763 1/2 acres.
