Marriage |
by. 1698 |
Northampton County, Virginia, USA [4] |
- The basis for the estimated marriage year is based upon the following: Whitelaw wrote: In 1796, Willam and Ann (--?--) Willett sold 600 acres to William Baker. In 1698, William Baker and Mary, his wife, sold the land back to Willett so "he could give them a new deed with a better description of the land and title." This land record advises us of two things: 1) William and Mary were married by 1698. and 2) Mary would have been at least 16 by the time she married William Baker. This would place her birth year at 1684. If she were older, of course the birth year would less, .e., if she were 21 at the time of marriage, her birth year would have been 1677. Given the fact that she was still living at the time of her father's 1665 will, it is more likely she was as young as 16 or thereabouts. It appears she was 81 in 1765; unusual but not improbable. Mary appears to have been the eldest of her siblings.
