  	Charles Harmar, a member of a Berkshire family, whose uncle John Harmar (1555-1613) and a brother Dr. John Harmar (1594-1670) were professors of Greek at Oxford Univeristy. He came to Virginia in 1622 in the Furtherance and at the time of the muster in 1624/5, in which he was listed as Charles Harman, age 24, was acting as overseer for Lady Dale on her extensive land holdings on the Eastern Shore, bordering Old Plantation Creek. Listed with him were John Askume, age 22, who came in the Charles, 1624; Robert Fennell, age 20, who came in the Charles, 1624; and James Knott, age 23, who came in the George, 1617.
