  	On 1 Sep 1684 in N'hamp Court it was recorded that these presents obligate me Samuel Bennett as security for Anne West her fine and charges for her last offence which she was presented for by the Grand Jury and saving the parish harmless from "the child she had" and performing what else the law in such cases enjoins as witness my hand this 28 Jul 1864. (NOTE: Although not named per say as the father, he paid her fine and left her and her two children his estate in his will. One of those children was evidently this Samuel Bennett.)

  	On 29 Dec 1701 in N'hamp County on the complaint of Paul Tanner and Ann his wife they are ordered to take care of Samuel Bennett, servant to Mary Clarke, widow (she was the widow of Robert Clarke & the daughter of Joseph Benthall Sr) till next court as they have done this 4 weeks past and indeavor the cure of his distemper till then and that the Sheriff sumons Mary Clarke to the next court to make safisfaction for his cure. (NOTE: Ann Tanner is his mother.)

  	On 28 Sep 1702 in N'hamp County in the difference depending upon reference between Joseph Benthall Senr pltf. and Paul Tanner and Ann his wife defts. there appearing variance between the condition by which John Bennett was bound by the said deft. Ann to the said plft. and the declaration the said suit is therefore dismissed. (NOTE: Since Ann was the one who bound John Bennett to Joseph Benthall Sen'r, she was evidenlty his mother, Ann West, the servant of Samuel Bennett who had 2 bastard children by him. Since at the time of his death, Samuel still had a wife in England, he could not legally claim her bastard children Samuel and John as his sons.)
