  	It was in this year that Francis Pettit sold the south 100 acres of the Thomas Pettit part of tract N85 to Charles Carpenter. In 1701 in spite of the fact that Thomas Pettit had exchanged all of his land here with his brother Francis, Thomas and his wife Elizabeth now sold the balance of 140 acres to Carpenter. These two purchases by hiim were the beginning of an accumulation of land in this vicinity by the Carpenter family, which finally included the N86 land as well. The clan was a numerous one and some of the successions are a little uncertain.
