Recd of Mr. Edward Littleton (Extr of his mother Mrs. Ann Littleton (to saye) These Ewe sheep given by her last will & testamt unto my three children Edward, Sara & Elizabeth, I saye recd the 10th of August 1656. Recorded 12 Aug 1657. Mr. Littleton my love remembered. (Sr) I recd yor Letter, & if you please to deliver ye Towe (2) Ewes unto my Cousen (cousin) Mellinge takeing his receipt; this my note shalbe yor discharge. Not [else?] but rest yor lovinge friend Mary Scarburgh. Signed July 22th 1657. August 11th 1657. Recd by mee Wm Mellinge of Mr. Edward Littleton (by order & appoyment of Mrs. Mary Scarburgh) towe (2) Ewe lambs being given by the last will & testament of Mrs. Ann Littleton, decd, unto Littleton Scarburgh sonne to Collenll Edm. Scarburgh & Mary his wife, I say recd ye day & year above written by mee Wm Mellinge. Recorded duo decimo die August 1657. (NOTE: Evidently Mary was a cousin of William Mellinge.)

  	William Whittington of Ackamack in Virginia, merchant, aged 40, William Melling of the same, merchant, aged 49, and James Cade of London, merchant, aged 52, depose 1 Sept., 1659, that in July last, at Amsterdam, they bought the ship called the Christina Regina, now the Northampton, on behalf of the aforesaid William Whittington, Lieut.-Col. William Randall and John Michell of Ackamack.

  	It was in this year that Anne Melling, as wife and attorney for her husband, assinged to Colonel William Kendall who reassigned to Robert Marrott.

  	William Melling was granted 200 acres in Northampton Co, Va., originally granted unto Frances Trevitt &c as by inquisition dated 17 Apr 1663. Whitelaw shows that William Melling took over the land deserted by Frances, the widow of George Trewitt. In 1664 he sold 100 acres at the east end to Robert Hutchinson who resold the next year to William Andrews. In 1665 William and Anne Mellinge sold as 120 acres to William Starling.

  	It was on this date that Arthur Bowzer and William Mellinge witnessed the will of George Williams.

  	Whereas at a court held 28 March 1667 Wm Mellinge procured an order for attachment against the estate of Peter Severne for 230 lbs tobacco & cask with court charges upon which order attachment issued out against the said Severne's estate & according to law was returned to this court of goods of the said Severn's attached in the hands of Mathew Gethings as should make satisfaction for the said 230 lbs tobacco & cask & charges of court, & the said Will: Mellinge having made his debt justly appear to be due, petitioning to this court that execution may be granted unto him upon the said estate upon such goods as are attached in the hands of the said Gethings, whereby he may receive satisfaction for his said debt with charges; It is therefore ordered that execution be granted unto the said Wm. Mellinge for 230 lbs tobacco & cask with charges of court.

(no name) the younger mare and 2 year old colt, and the new feather bed now in her possession. My children to receive their estates as they attain to lawful age or marry. My friends (Lt. Col.) William Waters and John Waterson to oversee. To my son William my plantation after my wife's decease. My sloop to my wife's disposal. My 2 hogsheads of sweet scented tob. at Edmund Allens to be sent home to England to buy a silver tankard worth £5 for my friend (Lt. Col.) William Waters. Witt: Owen Marsh, John White.
