  	That Capt. James Floyd is the son of Maj. John (197) Floyd III is based on the assumption that in 1789 when he bought part of tract N37 from John & Elishe Floyd of Princess Ann County, that they were brothers, and that this part of tract N37 descended down the chain of John Floyds from John Floyd I to John Floyd the IV, who in turn sold it to his brother Capt. James Floyd. Otherwise he may be the son of the Matthew Floyd who died by 14 Apr 1801 when administration on his estate was granted to a James Floyd.

I leave my lands to be sold by my executor. After my debts are paid I desire that the remainder of my estate be equally divided between my sons William Floyd, Jno Floyd, James Floyd, Berry Floyd and my daughters Nancy Nottingham and Catherine Biggs. I appoint my son William Floyd guardian to my son Berry Floyd. I appoint my sons William Floyd & Jno Floyd my executors. Signed, James Floyd. Witnesses: Jno K.
