- The will of Judge Simkins made in 1820 reads: 1st: I give my son John Simkins all that tract of land lying eastwardly of the village of Edgefield which I purchased of Peter Youngblood and about 15 Negroes. To Arthur Simkins Jr., a son of John, a house. To Nancy Lowe, 2 lots in the village of Edgefield, on one of which she now resides. To 2 granddaughters, Winnie and a name unintelligible in the will, and to Jesse, a grandson, and a granddaughter, Elinor McWhorter. To the youngest son, Eldred, all the remainder of the property. John and Eldred were Extrs. The son William is mentioned in the will and must have died before his father, as some of his children are made legatees. One daughter of William, Lucretia Simkins, married Mr. John Mobley of Red Bank, now in Saluda County. Nancy Lowe, mentioned in the will, was the 3rd child and only daughter of Judge Simkins. The fourth and youngest child of Arthur Simkins was Eldred.

- In his will John Simkins gave to wife Sally Simkins the plantation where I now live and the parcel adjoining containing about 1200 acres and 10 Negroes slaves, her choice. To my son Eldred Simkins, after the death of my wife, the plantation and lands on which I now reside containing as above stated. To my son William I. Simkins my lotts & houses in the village of Edgefield and the land adjoining thereto containing about 14 or 15 acres and the Youngblood and Niehweldon tract of land adjoining said village containing about 512 acres. To my son John M. Simkins the plantation I latlely pruchased of Daniel Bird Esq on Beaver Dam Creek containing about 830 acres and since the land is of less value, my sons Eldred and William are to pay my son John M. Simkins $500 each within 2 years of my decease in cash or property or otherwise at fair valuation. To the children of my son Jesse Simkins dec'd the money which I have already paid for his Ridge plantation being $1100, this being in lieu of the land that I am able to give to them. To the children of my son Arthur Simkins dec'd $1100 which I have already paid to him being the amout of sale of the Katchen(sp?) tract. To granddaughters Sarah Jeter and Caroline S. Jeter, children of my dec'd daughter Sabra Jeter, $1000 jointly. To Edmund Arthur Glascock and Ann Eliza Glascock, children of my dec'd daughter Betsey Glascock, $1,000 jointly. My grandchildren Edmund A. Glascock & Ann Eliza Glascock shall be educated at the charge of my estate without any charge upon their share or portions given to them. Negro girl Emily and her issue to my granddaughter Ann Eliza Glascock to be delivered to her at 21 years of age, but if Ann Eliza Glascock should die under age or without lawful issue, then Negro girl Emily and her issue to go to my granddaughter Sarah Mays, wife of Thomas Sumpter Mays. In relation to my 3 sons Eldred, William I. and John M. Simkins, it is my will that if either die without leaving lawful issue of his body living at the time of his death, that their share of my estate go to the survivors of them. My son-in-law John J. Jeter and my sons Eldred and William I. Simkins to be trustees of and for my son John M. Simkins. My son-in-law John J. Jeter and sons Eldred Simkins and William I. Simkins Extrs.

- In his codicil John Simkins removed the contingent legacy in his will regarding a Negro girl Emily and her issue that was to go to Sarah Mays, wife of Thos. S. Mays, if his granddaughter Ann Eliza Glascock, died under age 21 without lawful issue, and instead Emily and her issue is to go to my grandson Edmund A. Glascock.
