- page 2 of 58: "To the Worshipful the Court of the county of Accomack in Chancery the Bill of Complaint of Raymond Taylor & Nancy his wife, & of William Copes & Sally his wife, humbly complaining sheweth, That your female Complainants are daughters of Capt Charles Metcalf of the County aforesaid, who was lost at Sea on his return from Philadelphia for the County Afsd in a great storm that occurred in the year 1785: that at the time of his death he also left issue, besides your said female complainants, another daughter named Elizabeth, who hath since departed this life [March 1789] an infant, unmarried & without issue; that he also left a widow, Sarah Metcalf, the mother of your said female complainants...that the said Sarah Metcalf afterwards, to wit, in the year 1788 or 1789 intermarried with a certain Lewis Copes of the county aforesaid, who on the 28th day of July in the year 1789 was duly appointed by this Worshipful Court Guardian of your said female Complainants...the said Levin Copes lived until the year 1800 & during all the time aforesaid acted as Guardian of your said female Complainants, having the whole of their estate real and personal in his possession; that in the year last aforesd the said Levin Copes departed this life intestate, the said Sarah his wife surviving him & also leaving issue Susanna, a daughter & James T. Copes, as son, his children & heirs...Your Compainants further shew, that since the death of the said Levin Copes the said Sarah hath intermarried with Richard Grinalds of the County afsd & Susanna, the daughter of the said Levin Copes, hath intermarried with a certain Levi Dix, of the same county..."
