- In his will Robert Fletcher gave to my son William Fletcher my new pistols and holsters and my new gun. To my son Robert Fletcher a pair of pistols and holsters, and my silver shoe buckles stamped with "REWT". To my son William after my wife's decease my n. boy Tappley. To my son Robert after my wife's decease my n. girl Rose. If both sons die before of lawful age then said ns. to return to my loving wife Winefred. My two sons to be for themselves when 16. Remaining estate to my wife during her widowhood and then to be eq. div. by wife and two sons. Wife extrx. Witt: Cornelius Berry, Thomas Goffigon, James Goffigon.
Full version of the will of Robert Fletcher:
In the name of Bod Amen I Robert Fletcher in the county of Northampton County Virginia being at this time Sick and in a weakly and low condition but in perfect mind and memory Thanks be to Almighty Holy God for it but calling to mind the certainty of death knowing it is Ordained for all men to die I do make this my last Will and Testament in form and manner as followeth
Imprs I give and bequeath my Soul to the Almighty God who gave it to me and my Lord 7 Savior Jesus Christ who sanctified and redeemed me trusting through his mercy I shall enjoy ever lasting life with him in the Kingdom of Heaven and my body to the earth from which it was taken to be decently interred at the discretion of my exec. hereafter mentioned 7 to the disposing of my wordly goods shall be as followeth
Item I give and bequeath unto my Son William Fletcher my new Pistols and Holsters my new gunn a new Bible one Large Case with eleven bottles one Large Iron Pott one great Trunk my Horse Saddle and Bridle
Item I give and bequeath unto my son Robert Fletcher one Large Copper Kettle a pair of pistols and Holsters One Bible my Silver Shooe Buckles stamped with REWT one Large case with two large Bottles one Black Trunk
Item I give and bequeath to my son William after my wifes decease my negro Boy called Tappley to him and his heirs for ever
Item I give and bequeath unto my son Robert Fletcher after my wifes decease my negro girl called Rose to him and his heirs forever and if in case my Sons William and Robert should both die before they come of lawful age or leave no sons then my two negros Rose and Tappley to return to my Loving wife Winnefred Fletcher & the heirs of her body
Item My wish and Desires is that my Two Sons William and Robert Fletcher shale be for themselves when they be sixteen years old
Item My will and desire is that the remaining part of my Estate both of which nature or quality soever shall be and remain to my Loving Wife Winnefred Fletcher during her Widdowhood and if in Case she Marry then what is left of my Estate forthwith to be divided equally between my wife and my two sons William and Robert Fletcher
Item My wish and Desires is that my estate not be appraised Lastly I Do Departe Constitute Authorize and appoint my Loving Wife Winnifred Fletcher my whole and Sole Exectrx. of this my Last Will and Testament Utterly Revoking all former Wills made by me and this to remain my Last Will and Testament Where unto I have set my hand and fixed my Seal this First Day of March One Thousand Seven Hundred and Twenty Seven.
