  	The deposition of ffrancis Pettett taken in open Court - This deponent saith that about ffebruary last past Thomas Savage desired this deponent to goe along wth him unto John Savage and when they came unto the sd John Savage Asked the sd John Savage saying how is it Cozen And John Savage replyed saying I am much dampnifyed for want of my house and my hogd of tobacco. The sd John(sic) (Thos) Savage replyed saying I think I did you a courtesie in not comeing, for I should have but eaten upp yor Victualls the weather being soe vehement cold but I heare you will have mee to keepe upp my hogs in a penn all the yeare And the sd John Savage answeared you shall keepe upp yor hoggs as the rest of yor neighbors doth if they doth you shall or words to that effect, but further the sd Thomas Savage told him saying I will come and doe your work by the first of March you getting timber in readynes and I will pay you yor hogd of tobacco, And this deponent further saith that about March last past Tho: Savage being at work about the house of John Savage came to this deponent and entreated him to write the agreement betweene him and John Savage, And this deponent went and could not write it by reason his hand did shake soe John Savage did write it himselfe And further saith not.   	In his will Edward Ginkins directed all his debts in Northampton County to be satisfied, viz., to Mr. William Burwell 100#t, to Mr. Stringer 100#t, to William Stanley 10#t, to William Munns for 3 months work, to Jeffrey Minshall 40#t, and to John Peniwell one heyfer. Debts due to me from Thomas Savidge, from Thomas Dymor, from my brother Pettit two barrels of corne one of which I give to my brother Pettit and the other to John Savidge, from William Stephens as much kersey as will make a pair of mittens to be made for me by the said Jeffery. There is one heyfer of mine in John Little's field, and another in Savidge his neck. To Edward Daniel one pair of shoes and stockings. Remaining estate to William Burwell, Gent. Witt: John Prittyman, James Redwood.

  	I, Thomas Savage of N'hamp Co, cooper, have for and in consideration of 6 barrels of Indian corn already received, sold and delivered unto William Jordan of the same county, shoemaker, one cow marked over and under halved on the right ear and over halved on the left ear, to him his heirs, excs & admins freely to enjoy without any trouble or molestation forever in witness of the truth here of I have here unto set my hand.

  	Whereas an order was formerly granted that Capt Jno Stringer should have satisfaction of Thomas Savage for a steer killed by him, in difference between the said Mr. Stringer & Tho: Savage. (in case the ear mark by the reports of viewers of his cattle appointed by the Court did not appear to be of the same marks as the ears of the said steer killed were of) which ears were presented by the said Capt. Jno Stringer unto the Court; The said viewers accordingly brought into Court the said Savage's marks (which mark appearded not to be the same mark). And also it is confirmed by Jno Savage, his oath that the beast was so marked by him (That was showed unto Capt Stringer & killed by the said Savage. It is therefore further ordered that Tho: Savage shall forthwith make payment unto Capt. Jno Stringer one steer of the same age & bigness according to the judgement of Tho: Dimmor who best knew the former beast so unjustly killed by the said Thomas Savage). 400 pounds of tobacco & Caske, with Court Charges.

  	The deposition of Jno Savage taken 3 Nov 1654 (which he signed 27 Sep 1654). That, I, Jno Savage five or six years since showed unto Capt. Jno. Stringer one weaneinge brown steer calf; marked of both ears with a under half & over half on both ears; The tips being left (as it were sphere pointed) which said calf I marked for Ittalye Hodgskins; And afterwards bought it to the said Hodgskins; also I do declare the Thomas Savage his man, did kill the steer that went in the name of Capt Jno Stringer; it being to the best of my remembrance, the same mark as those ears were of as Capt Stringer presented to the Court; The steer was running at the upper end of the neck. This I am able to declare upon oath when I shall be thereunto called. Signed: Jno Savage, 27 Sept 1654. (NOTE: It seems if the deponent, Jno Savage, was a son of this Thomas Savage, he would have referred to him as his father.)

  	It was noted that Mr. John Smyth, who married the widow & relict of Thomas Savage, shall make payment to Andrew Pedigree(sic) Pettigrew, 821 pds of tobacco & caske (due for work) being the remainder of a great sum, per agreement with the widow Savage.

  	The deposition of Andrew Pedigrew taken in open court first March 56 sayeth that this last summer your deponent & Rebecca Smyth, then ye widow of Tho: Savage, made an agreement. Your deponent was to help finish ye caskes that her dec'd husband Tho: Savage had under taken to make for his neighbors. And for performance of our Agreement, your deponent was to receive 1,600 lbs tobacco and acknowledged that ye received 729 lbs of tobacco & caske, so there remain due to your deponent 821 of tobacco & caske.

  	This day ffollcott Obben, cooper, (by his corporall oath taken in open Court at Occahannocke) pved(sic) that the estate of Tho: Savage dec'd, is debted to him for work performed at his trade (According to agreement with Rebecca Savage in the time of her widdowhood) the sum & quantity of 780 lbs of tobacco & caske. It is therefore ordered in case Mr. Jno Smyth who married the widdow & relict of the said Thomas Savage shall not attend the next Court holden in Northampton County shew a suffic cause to ye contrary that then Judgmt shall be entered & Exec forthwith pceede att ye suite of ye said Folloctt Obben for payment of he siad Debt with Court charges.
