I give & bequeath to my sons Dickie Carpenter and Azel Carpenter the whole of my lands I now possess. I give my son Dickie Carpenter one Negro girl called Hannah. I give my son Azel G. Carpenter one Negro girl called Esther. I give unto my son Samuel Carpenter one Negro man called Jacob also one Negro boy called Nat and Negro girl called Edee and one Negro girl called Cate and one Negro girl called Candice. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Betsey Carpenter one Negro man called Levin & one Negro woman called Mary one Negro girl called Jenney one Negro boy called Peter and one Negro boy called George.   	In her will Adah Benthall gave to her niece Luca Carpenter. I leave the use of my Negroes; Betty, James and Sary to her during her life & at her death I give the said Negroes to her son Samma Carpenter. I give to Dickey Carpenter son of John Carpenter and Lucy his wife a Negro boy by the name of Jacob, a Negro girl by the name of Dilley. I give to Betsey Carpenter daughter of John Carpenter deceased and Lucy his wife a Negro by the name of George. I give to Leah Carpenter daughter of John Carpenter deceased and Lucy his wife one hundred pounds cash. I give the remainder part of my estate to be equally divided between the said Dickey Carpenter, Betsey Carpenter and Samma Carpenter.   	In his will Dickey G. Carpenter gave to brother Samuel G. Carpenter my watch and my small gun that I had by Thomas Elliott, deceased, to be kept by his guardian until he shall be fit to take care of them himself. My will and desire is that my mother Lucy Dunton, my brother Samuel G. Carpenter, my sister Elizabeth G. Upshur and Leah F. Carpenter have each a suit of mourning out of my estate and also that Betsey Dunton have a mourning suite with them. I give and bequeath to my half brother John Carpenter Dunton my colt Pandora that Rickards Dunton is to raise to three years old, also my gun that I had of John G. Ames. I give unto my half brother Alexandrew James Galt Dunton my Negro Boy Jacob. I give unto my sister Leah F. Carpenter my one fifth part of four fifths of Negro girl Esther devised by my father's will unto my dearest brother Azel G. Carpenter. I nominate and appoint Arthur B. Upshur my executor.   	The settlement of the estate of John Carpenter Senr, wife Lucy, was settled by Extr. John Carpenter Jr. Appraisers: John Upshur, John West, Thomas Elliott and George Brickhouse. Inventory and Appraisement taken on January 16, 1804. WB 33 pages 139-140. Audit and Settlement. John Carpenter Jr., executor. Pages 140-141. Recorded on February 12, 1810. Division of Slaves. WB 35 pages 398-399 Recorded on December 9, 1819. Heirs: Rickards Dunton and Lucy his wife in right of dower, Arthur B. Upshur and Elizabeth his wife, Samuel G. Carpenter and Leah F. Carpenter. Each heir received a portion "by descent from Azel Carpenter" and "by the will of D. G. Carpenter". Supplemental Audit and Settlement. John Carpenter Jr. executor. Begins on March 8, 1805. WB 37 page 88. Recorded on April 11, 1825. "Cash paid Tabitha Carpenter being a balance due her for the sale of her maiden land purchased by Wm Costin."
