- In his will John Powell gave son Nicholas Powell my 350 A. where I now live to begin for his southern bounds upon the land that was James Petti:Johns, and northerly to run along the marsh three half chaines by a pond in the northward pasture fence which runneth to the Rich Hummock, and from thence westerly into the branch where my pasture fence now stands and from thence along the aforesaid branch. To my son John Powell 200 A. which was my father's, it being the southern part of my land. To son Nathaniel Powell 200 A. where Thomas Cottin now liveth, it being the northern part of my land. To sons Nicholas and John my 325 A. part of Wrack Island. To my son Nicholas all the cattle marked with the flowerdeluce. To my loving wife Frances Powell during her widowhood the use of my whole estate, except the legacies given my three sons. My sons to be taught to read, write, and cipher perfectly. If wife dies or marries, estate to be eq. div. by wife and three sons. Sons to be of age at 16 if wife marries, else at 21. If wife marries again then three sons to be at liberty to pick their guardians when 12. If my son Nicholas should disturb or sue his mother or his brother Nathaniel, then Nicholas to have only 5s. Wife extrx. Honored friend (Col.) John Custis, Esq. and my brother Benjamin Stratton to oversee. Witt: Thomas 'T' Bayley, Agnes Stratton, Benjamin Stratton.
