- In the name of God Amen. The nineteenth dayof March in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred ten (19 March 1710). I Nicholas Granger of Sussex upon Delaware yeoman being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God. Therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die doe make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my executor nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as forsaking such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give, devise, and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. Imprimis. I give to my dearly beloved wife the now dwelling house with half the clear ground and Inertly(?) to possess it during her widowhood and liberty to get fencing cut and firewood on the tract of land thereunto be-----ing what she shall have occasion of and at the day of marriage this land to fall to my son Nicholas Granger. Item. I give to Ann my wife my two working horses and my plow and harness thereunto belonging and six ewes and lambs and five cows and one feather bed and furniture and ninety heavy pieces of eight. Item. I give to my three daughters Hannah, Mary, Abigail one black mare and increase to be equally divided as they shall come to age and three cows? and all their increase to be equally divided as they shall come to age. Item. I give to my daughter Sarah two heifer yearling(s) the same to be delivered at my decease and one ewe. Item. I give to my daughter Ann two heifer yearlings and one ewe to be delivered at my decease. Item. I give to my wife all my crop of corn and wheat only excepting ten bushels of wheat for my son Nicholas and I give all my hogs to my wife. Item. I give to my son Nicholas Granger the one half of my now dwelling plantation after my decease to him his heirs and assigns forever and the other half at marriage day of his mother-in-law. Item. I give to my son two guns and all my carpenter tools. Item. I will that all the rest of my personal estate to be divided between my wife and children onely? one feather bed and furniture to my daughters Sarah and Ann. I likewise constitute make and ordain my son Nicholas only and sole executor of this my last will and testament all and singular and I do hereby entirely disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments, wills and legacies bequests and executors by me in any way before this time named willed and bequeathed ---tifying? and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness where I have thereunto set my hand and seal the day and year here written. Nicholas Granger desires that Art Vankirk and Thomas Hemmons would be so kind as to the disposition of my estate. Sussex - the first day of April seventeen hundred twenty. (1 April 1720) Then came before me one of her Majesties Justices of the peace for county Henry Spencer and Abigail Verkirk and did give their attests as the same ----- and Phillip Grindy did make oath on the Holy Evangelist that they did see the within mentioned Nicholas deceased sign, seal, and deliver this to us his last will and Testament proved before me the date above.
