- William Waltham & Sarah his wife, daughter & devisee of Obediah Johnson, late of N'hamp Co, Gent, dec'd; Josiah, Annamaria & Elizabeth Johnson, infant children & devisees of said Obediah represented by William Waltham their next Friend (guardian) swore that Obediah in his lifetime, being possessed of slaves Elijah, Violet, Ezekiel, Aaron, Chloe, Pleasant, Southy, Gale, Rachel, Leah, Joshua, Abraham & Daniel by his will devised the said slaves to be equally divided amongst his wife Priscilla Johnson and all his children when his son William became age 21, his children in all Eight: Edmund, William, Obediah, Susanna, Josiah, Sarah, Annamaria & Elizabeth Johnson. The said Edmund and William Johnson absconded from this state and enlisted themselves in the service of the British Navy on Board a Ship of War in which service they still continue. The said William has arrived at the age of 21. But now the Extr Priscilla & devisees Obediah & Susannah Johnson have taken possession of the slaves and refuse to permit the slaves to be divided. Therefore, it is requested that the slaves be equally divided. Answer: Priscilla Johnson and Obediah & Susanna Johnson agreed to divide the slaves.
