- In his will John D. Roberts gave to James T. Kellam, son of Sally Kellam, $200 provided he should live to be 21 old. I loan the whole of my estate (except the above $200) to my daughter Mary Ann Roberts during her life & at her decease to her children, but if she dies childless then to my sister Sally Hickman's 6 children John Hickman, Edward Hickman, Demariah Hickman, Elijah Hickman, Mary Ann Hickman & James R. Hickman & my sister Sally(sic) (Mary) Floyd's 3 children James F. Powell, John H. Floyd & Eldred Floyd making 9 equal shares. My daughter Mary Ann Roberts to be sent to school until she is old enough to use the needle & then I wish her to learn to sew, cut & make clothes &c. My uncle Joshua K. Roberts Extr. Witt: Thomas Harrison, John J. Nock & Adah Roberts. Partly proved 31 Aug 1840, fully proved 28 Dec 1840 and probated 25 Jan 1841 when Joshua K. Roberts gave bond with Arthur Downing & George S. Mapp securities.

- I give and bequeath to my daughter Critty Sarah Roberts provided she lives to arrive at lawful age or marries the whole of my estate. I give and bequeath to the lawful heirs of my wife, a Negro boy called Nathan & a Negro girl called Sarah (being the Negroes belonging to my wife at the time of our marriage). The balance of my whole estate should be divided among the children & grand children of my brothers Francis, John, Arthur and my sister Rachel Roberts in the following manner. One fourth to be equally divided between the children of my brother Francis Roberts. One fourth to the children and grandchildren of my brother John Roberts viz: to the children of Sally Hickman (the wife of Edward Hickman) one third of the one fourth, to Polly Floyd (widow of Benjamin Floyd) one third, and to Mary Anne Roberts daughter of John D. Roberts one third. But in case the said Mary Anne Roberts dies before she arrives at lawful age or marries then it is my will that the property go to Polly Floyd. To the children and grandchildren of my brother Arthur Roberts I will and desire one fourth to be divided among them; to Thomas and George, sons of Arthur Roberts one fourth each, to Joshua C. Roberts son of Arthur E. Roberts and grandson of Arthur Roberts one fourth, and to the children of Susan Robins wife of Louis Robins, formerly Susan Roberts one fourth. To the grandchildren of my sister Rachel Roberts I give and bequeath the remaining and last fourth of my estate. It is also my will and desire that my executors should have the graveyard (wherein my wife is buried, enclosed by a brick wall the size that it now is. I appoint my friends Teackle W.
