  	In 1650 a Patent to John Major for 400 acres "on the south side of Great Nuswattocks River" (today's Nandua Creek). In 1664 John Major left to his cousin William Willer and to his brother Richard Johnson (N116), but in some way the title came into the possession of William Major, a brother. In 1684 the brother William left to his wife Mary and then to his son William the "Plantation at Skipper's Gut where I now live" and in 1730 he (wife Mary) left to his son Littleton Scarburgh Major. In 1767 he left to his grandson Littleton Major, who died intestate in 1781, leaving a widow Sarah and presumably a son William as his heir. In 1824 he left to his son William L. Major and in 1859 commissioners sold the house and 467 acres to Samuel Scherer.

  	Nathaniel Milby & his wife Elizabeth sold part of this tract as 170 acres Littleton Scarburgh Major, who in 1767 left to his grandson Littleton Major.

  	Scarburgh Martin, tried for assault and battery on Betty Martin, was found guilty. Scarburgh was taken into custody till paying a fine of 50 shillings plus court costs. Elizabeth Major, (wife of Littleton Scarburgh Major) and Betty Martin each testified one day against Scarburgh, who was also presented for breaking the Sabbath; she admitted her guilt and was fined 5 shillings (or 50 lbs tobacco) for the use of the poor plus court costs. Betty Martin spent a day testifying against Scarburgh in this matter.

  	From a Locust post in the head of a gutt Called Second Gutt parting the land of Thos Teackle & Obediah Vanderfoh Westerly to a pine; also from a beech parting the land of Littleton Scarburgh Major & the lands of Littleton Scarburgh Major & Obediah Vanderfoh to a locust post; & from the sd post between the land of Thos Teackle & Littleton Scarburgh Major to a Corner Sorrill; from thence to ye head of Pine Branch; & from a Small stump in the sd Branch to a corner black gum standing in Hopes Branch afsd mentioned having ye lands of Litt: Scarburgh Major & Jno Major on the North & Thos Teackle on the South; also from the head of Skepers Gutt between the land of Litt: Scarburgh Major & Jno Major to the land of Thos Teackle; also between the afsd Sd Parties from a White Oak standing near the head of a gutt to the sd Teackles Land.

  	Pursuant to an Order of Vestry Dated July the 13th 1759, We the Subscribers have Processioned all the lines according to Directions of the sd Order except a line between Jno Wests & Anthony Wests & the disagree to run the line by a Surveyor. Men present: Wm Andrews, Jacob Andrews, Reed Fletcher, Josiah Harrison, Elisha Meers, Jno Sill, Jonathan Killam, West Killam, Littleton Scarbrough Major, Jno Teackle, Jno Major, Richd Baily, Benjn Coloney, Hewit Smith, Jno West, Anthony West & Brandon Fitchett.   	In his will Littleton Scarburgh Major directed that wearing apparel & diet to be found for my son Frederick Major out of my estate by my grandson Littleton Major as long as my said son lives, & if my grandson refuses I give as much of my land as I bought of Nathaniel Milby to be rented out as will keep him in these things. To grandson Littleton Major, after payment of debts & he complying with the gift to his uncle Frederick, whole estate, real & personal, & to receive the same when he is 21 years of age. Between Wm Joyne & Richd Bayley; The Gleebe land & Bayleys Land; & between William Kellam & sd Bayley; between Benjamin Colony & Bayley Down to Thomas Teackles Land at another Time meeting the above people and Thomas Teackle Junr, Caleb Teackle, Litt: Scarburgh Major, John West, Peter Hack Junr Beginning then between Richard Bayley & Thomas Teackle; & between John Smith & Sd Bayley; & Thomas Jacob & Bayley & Thos Jacob & Thos Teackle; Likewise the land formerly was here Hen: Smith & Thomas Teackle & Thomas Teackle & Thomas Hall then Littleton Major & John Major & John Major & Thomas Teackle & Littleton Major & Benjamin Colloney & Benjamin Colony & Daniel Selevan & Jonathan Kellam, [-----] Selevan.   	Littleton Scarburgh Major aged 60 years and upwards testified that 50 years ago he knew Thomas Stringer (father of defendant Fereby), who lived on and held the entire 600 acres now in possession of the defendants (Fereby Stringer, Hillary Stringer and William Ward) until a division over 30 years ago between Thomas and his cousin Hillary Stringer, who each possessed half of the land. Signed Littn Scarburgh Major, whose deposition was taken 11 June 1770, in the presence of the parties by Isaac Dunton and Ismay Johnston.
