- A Thomas Marshall served as Captain of the Worcester Militia, Snow Hill Battalion, August 30, 1777, taking the Oath of Allegiance in Worcester County in 1778 before the Hon. James Selby. Another Thomas Marshall served as a 1st Lt. of the Worcester Militia. (Henry C. Peden, Jr., Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset Counties, Willow Bend Books, Westminster, MD, 1999, p. 188) Because of his age, it is thought Thomas of Esme was Captain, and his cousin, Thomas of John, was the 1st Lieutenant.
