- In a letter dated 13 Mar 1938 from Mark C. Lewis to James E. Mears, Mr. Lewis states that James H. Crowson, a life-long resident of the Hunting Creek section, told him that James E. Mears' grandmother had a sister, Elizabeth Young, of whom his grandmother did not mention to Mr. Mears. Elizabeth Young married William Annis, who in his youth was extremely rough man, his sole interests being trapping, drinking and fighting; that in 1857, Elizabeth, in despair at the way things were going, put the kids in bed with the admonition that they remain there until their father came home, and disappeared from the Shore. It was said the she went to Baltimore and stayed with her brother for a while, but years later two of daughters went to look for her, but were unable to get any trace of her.
