  	Kathryn was born at her Grandmother Kilmon's house on their farm near Keller, VA, as it was customary at that time for mothers to return to their mother's house to have their babies. She attended Saxis Elementary School until 1931 and then Temperanceville High School until 1935. There were only 11 grades at that time. After high school she worked for her Uncle Milton Drewer as an office worker in his seafood business at Saxis, VA. She married Moody K. Miles Jr. when he came home on furlough during World War II. The wedding took place on a rainy June night at Pitts Creek Presbyterian Church on Market Street in Pocomoke, MD. She returned to California by train with Moody, where they lived in a one room apartment at 16746 Sherman Way and later on Sepuloeda Blvd, Van Nuys, in the Sanfernando Valley near Los Angeles, CA. They lived in California from 1944 to 1946. While in California she worked in an aircraft manufacturing plant as an electrician's helper running wires inside small remotely controlled airplanes. Marilyn Monroe also worked at the same plant during this time. They returned to Saxis in April 1946 and moved in with her parents until their house was finished. They moved into their new house in September 1949. It was at this time that she realized that she had parkinson's disease which prevented her from returning to work. She became a local corespondent for the Eastern Shore News, writing the Saxis column for a number of years.
