Anecdote |
tract A118, sea side east of Parksley, Accomack Co, Virginia [2] |
- John Barnes III died without a will in 1753 leaving a widow Mary, and Whitelaw shows a son Archibald was his eldest son and inherited his land. In 1756, being age 14, Archibald (orphan of John Barnes) chose Charles Gill as his guardian. In 1760 Spencer Barnes was bound out to Joshua Hall. In 1761 Charles Gill agreed to keep Archibald for the profits of his estate. In 1761 Sacker Barnes was bound out to Ruben Folger. In 1763 John Barnes was bound out to Joshua Hall. In 1765 Holt Barnes was bound out to Major Cole and in 1770 Preeson Barnes was bound out to Charles Gill. (NOTE: Although only Archibald was shown as an orphan of John Barnes, evidently the others were also orphans of John, as John was the only Barnes who died without a will the right time to have had these other sons.)
