  	William Andrewes sailed for Virginia from Gravesend, England, 21 Mar 1616/7, aboard the Treasurer, with Capt. Samuel Argall, returning to the colony as Lietutenant-Governor, in command. The ship reached Virginia 25 May 1617 and by 1623/4 when he was listed in the census Andrews had settled on the Eastern Shore.

  	On 7 Mar 1623/4 he made a deposition as aged about 25 or 26. He was mentioned in his patent for 100 acres, 14 Mar 1628/9, as a Planter of Accomack.

  	He was shown as William Andrewes, an Accomack planter, patented 100 acres of land utilizing 2 headrights that had been transferred to him. He continued to accumulate land on 25 June 1635 acquired 100 acres between Old Plantation and Kings Creek, where Capt. William Eppes' plantation was located and 200 acres on Hungars Creek, using the headright of his wife Susanna. He became a commissioner of Accomack's monthly court and a vestryman. In 1644 he was accused of illegally tranding with the Indians. He became a militia captain and later a major, and was Northampton County's high sheriff in 1655.

  	On 30 Apr 1644 along with Stephen Charlton he was appointed commander of the district from Nassawattocks to Hungars. As Capt. William Andrews he was appointed, 9 Oct 1651, to command the military district of Hungars Creek and he was later major of militia and lieutenant colonel at the time of his death. He served as on of the commissioners of N'hamp Co, 1633-54, and was high sheriff, 1655.

To my two grandchildren Elisheba Andrews and her sister Elizabeth, a yearl(in)y heifer apiece. My wife relict and extrx. Witt: Edmund Mathews, William Andrews, Jr. (Note: William Smarte married Mary the widow and extrx., and confirmed the dec'd's gifts to his children John, Andrew, Mary, and Ann Andrews. In the inventory William Andrews is the brother of Samuel Chandler.)
