Anecdote |
1810 |
- Ebourn Bird was named to inherit his father John Bird, ,Senr.'s land, land that had belonged to his grandfather, Solomon Bird, and great-grandfather, John Bird. On 18 May 1833, Elizabeth Bird, administrix of John Bird, Junr, plaintiff, brought a suit against "Thorogood Taylor, executor of John Bird, Senr, Ebourn Bird devisee of John Bird, Senr and William Martin and Catherine his wife formerly Catherine Bird", defendants, (Chancery Orders 1831-1845, p. 26). Evidently, John Bird, Senr had given a note to John Bird, Junr after writing his will in 1810, for, on 20 November 1834, "the Court doth adjudge the plaintiff recover $1,500 and interest from 1st day of June 1830" (p. 49). Thorogood Taylor was directed to pay $33.89 to the plaintiff, the balance left in John Bird, Senr's estate. A. commissioner sold the land Ebourn was to inherit on 1 July 1835, to George P. Bird and Osburn J. Bird for $800, "they being the highest bidder" (p. 72). On 29 December 1835, George P. Bird and Osburn J. Bird sold to their uncle, Ebern Bird, 50 acres of the same land for $200 (Deeds 1835-1831, p. 362).

- On 5 Sep 1935 a letter was sent to the Salisbury Pedistinarian Baptist Association, Salisbury, MD, by Annie Susan (Byrd) Kelley, outlining the history of the "Old School Baptist Church" at the Messongo Meeting House. For a complete copy of the letter see the record for Annie Susan (Byrd) Kelley. (NOTE: He was shown as Ebriam Byrd, (no blood connection of mine) not only did he take active part in the Faith but took a great interest in the building of the meeting-house, he was a mechanic by instinct as well as by trade, he planned the burning of the shells for the lime and made all of the frame work with an adz. It must not be overlooked that his daughter Arena, although not of our faith, stood firm with him, helping to sift the shell lime and sand that walls of the building held.)
