  	Mary Lews was granted 400 acres of the south side of Chesconesex Creek at its mouth, but that later was found not to be available, so in 1664 she received in its stead a new patent for 400 acres in a neck between two branches of Nuswattocks (now Parker's) Creek. By inference, Mary is assumed to have been a daughter of John and Lucresia Lewis of A108. Mary married Isaac Dix, who in 1673 received a patent for 1,000 acres, 400 of it said to have been deserted by Mary, and the balance new land. Isaac Dix (wife Mary) left the land to his sons John and Isaac in 1688; "John to have the plantation where I now live and Isaac to have his part in the little neck." The widow Mary married William Groten.

  	Upon petition of Isaac Dix, 600 acres of land which was formerly granted to Mary Lewis in Northampton County (later Accomack County), being since deserted, leave is given the said Dix to patent the same in case it be not formerly granted, entering rights according to law. Whitelaw shows that Mary had married Isaac Dix, who in 1673 received a patent of 1,000 acres, 400 of it said to have been deserted by Mary and the balance new land.

  	A deed of gift from William Groten to my wife's son Jno Dix one two year old heifer and her increase to him and his heirs forever and to my wife's daughter Mary Dix I give one two year old heifer and her increase to her heirs forever and to my wife's daughter Lucretia Dix I give one two year old heifer and her increase to her and her heirs forever and to all ye children my on __?__ all I give to each of them one ewe and a ewe lamb and their increase to them and their heirs forever. The said sheep and cows delivered to ye children as they attain to age by their father's will and to ye two girls which has the feather bed left them by their father's will I give to them furniture to ye said bed and further I give to John Dix my wife's son as many feathers as will fill a bed and boult of ticking which was left to him by his father's will provided that the said John Dix when he comes to age will oblige himself to give to his brother Isaac Dix one new bead and boult of ticking when he the said Isaac comes to age and to ye free performance of all and every promise above written.   	On 20 Sep 1692 in Accomack Court deposition of Richard Bundock, Jr., aged about 40 years: About the last of February 1688/89, Bundock, Henry Johnson and Thomas Jenkinson went to Col. John West's house for a bay horse that had run away from Henry Johnson, who had purchased the animal from Richard's father, Richard Bundock, Sr. When they came to West's field, Richard saw the horse and said, "There is your horse." After they spoke to West, he sent for the horse out of his pasture. Richard identified it as the horse once belonging to his father; West said he could not tell, "but they told me that this is my horse." Richard offered to take the horse and bring him to the next court, but West refused, saying he would do it himself, and "If it proves the old man's horse, if he will pay me ye pair of shoes which I gave for bringing of him home, he may have the horse." Later West came to Bundock's house "and agoing from (my) house along a path that goes to Mary Groton's, (I) told the said West that the said horse was certainly Henry Johnson's horse, and Col West replied that he had sold ye said horse over the Bay and that if Henry Johnson would have the horse, he must shew (sue?) him for ye said horse, and 'if it proves to be the old man's horse, I must pay him for ye said horse.'"   	According to Whitelaw, John Lewis' wife was named Lucretia, but it has seemed impossible to identify her correctly; Mark C. Lewis, a descendant and the present authority on the Lewis clan, thinks by inference she may have been a Lucretia Pott, who was on the Shore at about the right time to fit that theory. In his will, he mentioned no daughters, but it is almost certain that he had at least one, who at the time may have been dead; she was Mary, first the wife of Isaac Dix (A103) and then the wife of William Groten. There were Dix children, but as they had been well provided for, Lewis may not have thought it necessary to leave them anything.
