- Moody was born at Sanford, VA, but was raised at Saxis, VA. After attending Saxis Elementary School he attended Temperanceville High School from 1935 to 1940. At the age of 12 he dislocated his hip and was a patient in Crippled Children's Hospital in Richmond, VA. After his return home he remained on crutches for some time. At the age of 15 he began driving a truck hauling seafood for his father. He was drafted into the Army in March of 1942 and saw limited duty do to his dislocated hip. "Mrssrs. Moody Miles Jr. and Milton Drewer Jr. left Tuesday, 9 Mar 1943, for Camp Lee, then to be transferred to Salem Army Air Base, Salem Oregon," (Pen. Ent., 12 Mar 1943). While in the Army he served as an ambulance driver and supply clerk. He was stationed at Salem, OR; Fort Lewis, WA; and Palo Alto in Van Nuys, CA. While on furlough in June of 1944, he returned home and married Kathryn Drewer at the Presbyterian Church, Market St., Pocomoke City, MD. They were married by the Rev. Roy M. Shoat (E.S. News, 30 Jun 1944). They returned to Van Nuys, CA, together. After his discharge in March of 1946, they returned to Saxis and lived with Kathryn's parents. They began building a home in the spring of 1949 and moved into it in September of 1949. He continued to drive trucks hauling seafood and produce for various employers all over the eastern half of the United States until 1970 when he began working for Holly Farms Poultry at Temperanceville, VA. He continued to drive long distance for them until he became the assistant dispatcher. He injured his shoulder at Holly Farms in June 1976. After Holly Farms, he drove a truck for Vernon Drewer, Jr. of Saxis, hauling surf cams from Jew Jersey to Saxis. He retired from truck driving in 1983 and began drawing his Social Security. For the last 10 years of his life he worked at the Lewis Brothers' Crab House at Saxis, in the spring and summer months, to supplement his Social Security and to be with his lifelong friends. He died in July of 1994, at the age of 73 years, after a two year bout with congestive heart failure. Several months before his death he developed lung cancer and was under going radiation treatment at the time of his death.
