Marsh Market (tract A150), Messongo Cr, Accomack Co, Virginia [6] |
- 1712 Richard Bayly sold 300 acres of the eastern 600 acres of this tract to Thomas Fletcher, it being a strip extending from A159 to the creek and at the lower end of it was bounded on the west by the road through Marsh Market.
1737 Thomas Fletcher left to his son Henry for life and then to the latter's first male heir.
1772 Henry Fletcher bought the adjacent 300 acres from the western 600-acres part, and in 1779(sic) 1799 he left the whole 600 acres then owned to his son Thomas.
1820 He died intestate and in the division of his lands this original 300 acres part with the home went to Thomas W. Finney in right of his wife Sarah.
1821 The Finneys sold to Henry Fletcher, and in 1835 he and his wife Mary sold to Thomas Fletcher.
Some years later, following the intestate death of Thomas, this part of his holdings became owned by Thomas E. and Douglas D. Fletcher, who in 1907 united in a sale of the house and 58 acres. A number of other owners followed until 1945 when a descendant, C.G. Fletcher of York County, purchased the house and 30 acres.
