He was buried at Snow Hill, Md on July 21, 1938. The cause of death was a gun-shot wound apex of left lung & secondary hermouhage. Death was caused by murder - Shot with shot gun on property of factory.

- Boat Watchman Jailed In Death of Employer
William Richardson a 58-year-old boathouse watchman was booked at Henrico County Jail last night on a charge of murdering his employer Wilmer Davis of Reedville yesterday afternoon. Richardson arrested by Sheriff J. E. Anderson of Northumberland County was ordered held in Henrico County Jail by Judge E. Hugh Smith of the Circuit Court of Northumberland County until the Grand Jury hears his case.
Police here said that Richardson admitted slaying Davis yesterday afternoon after his employer had rebuked him because of his behavior.

- Trial Date Set For Richardson In Slaying Case
Special to The News Leader.
HEATHSVILLE, Nov. 18. -- Judge E. Hugh Smith has set Dec. 1 as the day for the trial of William F. Richardson who Is alleged to have shot and killed Wilmer E. Davis, a fellow employ at Reedville fish plant on July 19.
At the October term of the Northumberland Circuit Court defense counsel moved the court to send Richardson to a State asylum for mental observation, stating that the accused was mentally incompetent to stand trial. Judge Smith ordered this done and after several weeks of observation and examination the authorities at Eastern State Hospital, Williamsburg, have declared the accused mentally competent at this time.
Commonwealth's Attorney Daniel Weymouth will be assisted by State Senator Robert O. Norris, Jr, In the prosecution. The court has appointed Ammon G. Dunton to represent the defendant.
