- J.D. Rowley, retired Tennessee Eastman official, was pronounced dead on arrival at Holston Valley Community Hospital about 7:30 pm Wednesday after suffering an apparent heart attack at this cabin on Boone Lake. Rowley, 67, of 2956 Cliffside Road, joined Eastman in 1934. He became an engineering consultant in January 1966, after as general superintendent of the Engineering Shops, and Maintenance and Power and Services Divisions and as vice-president and general manager of Bays Mountain Construction Company. He retired Jan. 1, 1968. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity and was active in Boy Scout work for a number of years, receiving the Silver Beaver. He was a trustee of the Broad Street United Methodist Church. Rowley attended at Swarthmore, Pa., and was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ella Arthur Black Rowley; two daughters, Mrs. William A. Resch III of Kent, Ohio, and Mrs. William Jackson Roberts of Kingsport; one son, Joseph Daniel Rowley Jr. of Kingsport; one sister, Mrs. W.E. Davis of Chincoteague; and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted Friday in Broad Street United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
