  	It is likely if not certain that William Pery of Virginia was the William, son of Henry Pery, who was christianed at Buckland Monachorum (Devon) on 27 Aug 1592. This Henry Pery married Richarda Playtr. "There is little direct confirmation for this suggestion, but we do know that Captian William Pery, the Virginia councilor (d. 1637), named his son Henry and the son called his estate "Buckland."

  	William Perry, designated as "ancient planter," came to Virginia, 1611, but as he returned to England following the massacre of 11 March 1621/22 on business for the colony, he is not listed in the census of 1623/24 or in the muster of 1624/25. "Mrs. Perry" and "infans Perry," however, along with Francis Chapman, were at James City, 1623/24. Perry was one of the five planters who were bearers of a petition to the Company from Gov Wyatt which was dated at James City, 2 Feb 1623/24, and considered by the Council for Virginia, 21 April 1624. This petition asked relief from "paying any Custome, or Impost upon their tobacco crop until the said Plantation (Virginia) by peace become somewhat settled" and also recited the disaster in the colony caused by the recent massacre. (NOTE: Dorman also states that "infans" usually means son.)

  	In the 1626 list of patents sent to England, William Perry is credited with 100 acres in the Corporation of Henrico. His patent for the plantation known as "Buckland" on the north side of the James River is of record, 19 Sep 1633 and is referred to in a repatent to his son, 1637.
