176007 Whereas Amos Garrett(sic), by his attorney Mr. Andrew Hamilton, brought his action to this court against James Grifeth, assault and battery and the cause being now called up the deft. pleaded not guilty. 176009 Whereas an order was formerly granted that Capt Jno Stringer should have satisfaction of Thomas Savage for a steer killed by him, in difference between the said Mr. Stringer & Tho: Savage. (in case the ear mark by the reports of viewers of his cattle appointed by the Court did not appear to be of the same marks as the ears of the said steer killed were of) which ears were presented by the said Capt. Jno Stringer unto the Court; The said viewers accordingly brought into Court the said Savage's marks (which mark appearded not to be the same mark). And also it is confirmed by Jno Savage, his oath that the beast was so marked by him (That was showed unto Capt Stringer & killed by the said Savage. It is therefore further ordered that Tho: Savage shall forthwith make payment unto Capt. 176011 Whereas Ann Scarlett, mother of Martin Scarlett, about the year 1651 left a heifer in the custody of Thomas Dimmer for the use of her son Martin Scarlett. 176019 Whereas Anne Beadle was formerly presented to the Court by Mr. Thomas Ryding, Church Warden, for the sin of Adultry and this day the said Anne Beadle personally appeared to answer the charges, alledging that she had no husband living, but not appearing to the Court by positive proof for the present that she hath a husband the layeth claim to her. The Court at this instance have suspended their judgment until the next Court held in this County, in which time she is to procure certificate from Gloucester County or else an acknowledgment from the Records of the said Court by the subscription of Richard Beadle her reputed husband that he layth no claim to the said Anne Beadle his supposed wife and in the interim that she stand committed in the sheriff custody until she put in sufficient security for her good behavior & performance of the award of the Court according to the evidence she shall then produce & pay Court charges. (--?--), Anne 'Nan' (I74574)

176030 Whereas at a court held in Northampton County 29 Feb 1663, it was ordered that Ambrose London should be fined 2,000 lbs tobacco for not baptizing his children according to Act of Assembly, and also the same Court also passed another order against him to be fined 1,000 lbs tobacco for Sabbath breaking & his irreverent behavior, and at a court held in the said county 28 Oct 1664 it was ordered that the sheriff should forebear to collect the said fines imposed on him until further order from the court, hoping to find a conformity in him; and the said Ambrose London being brought to this court by a "scire Facias" and the court finding him still in his obstinance have revived the said order; and it is ordered that the present sheriff collects forthwith the said fines of 3,000 lbs tobacco, with charges of court. London, Maj. Francis Pott, dec'd, declared in his life time unto me the subscriber, that when he departed this Natural Life that he intended to set his Negro Bashore free, but did not mention the same in his will. Now know ye that I do by these presents set the said Bashore at liberty and proclaim him to be free from any service due to me, my Extrs or Admrs, for ever having power to do the same as by marriage of the Extrx of above said Pott and knowing assuredly the said Pott intended the same thing which I have now done and declared under my hand as my act and deed in open court this 30 May 1659. Kendall, Col. Innis & Thomas Moor, my right, title & interest in 200 acres at the place abovesaid, also one other patent of 500 acres at Maggotty Bay, which was formerly assigned over by Mr. John Neal, late of this county, merchant, unto Col. 176042 Whereas complaint was this day made to the Court by the humble peticon of Anthony Johnson Negro, against Mr. Robert Parker, that the detained one John Casor, a Negro, the plantiff's servant under pretense that the said Jno Casor is a freeman. The Court seriously considering and maturely weighing the premises do find that the said Mr. Robert Parker most unjustly kept the said Negro John Casor from his said master Anthony Johnson; As appeared by the deposition of Captain Samuel Goldsmyth and many probable circumstances; it is therefore the judgment of the Court and ordered that the said John Casor, Negro, shall forthwith be returned into the service of his said master Anthony Johnson and that the said Mr. Robert Parker make payment of all charges in the suite alias execucon. Parker, Robert (I6948)

176045 Whereas Daniel Mifflin of Accomack County in the Colony of Virginia and Mary Warner of Kent Co. aforesaid, having Intention of taking each other in Marriage Declared their said Intentions before Severall Monthly Meetings of the People Called Quakers in Kent County aforesaid, Whose proceedings therein, after Deliberate Consideration and Consent of parents and parties thereby Concerned, were approved of by the said meetings: and for the full accomplishment of Said Marriage the said Daniel Mifflin and Mary Warner, on the 15th Day of the Ninth Month in the year 1744 appeared in a publick assembly of the said people and others in Cecil Meeting House, Kent Co. aforesaid, where after some time of solitidy and waiting upon the Lord the said Daniel Mifflin standing up, and haveing the said Mary Warner by the hand. 176046 Whereas Daniel Mifflin of Accomack County in the Colony of Virginia, Farmer, and Ann Walker of the same place having declared their Intentions of Marriage with each other before several Monthly Meetings of the People called Quakers in Kent County in the Province of Pennsylvania, according to the good order used among them, whose proceedings therein after a deliberate consideration thereof and having Consents of Parents and Parties concerned nothing appearing to obstruct were approved of by the said Meetings. Now these are to certify whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing their said Intention this Seventeenth Day of the Tenth Month in the Year of our Lord, One Thousand, seven hundred and fifty-seven they the said Daniel Mifflin and Ann Walker appeared in a Public Meeting of the said People and others at Little Creek Meeting House in the aforesaid County, and the said Daniel taking the said Ann by the hand Did in a Solemn Manner Openly Declare that he took her to be his Wife Promising through Divine Assistance to be unto her a faithful and loving husband until the Lord is pleased by Death to separate them or words of like importance and then and there in the said Assembly the said Ann Did in like manner Declare that she took the said Daniel to be her Husband, Promising through the Lord's assistance to be unto him a faithful and loving Wife until the Lord is pleased by Death to separate them, and moreover the said Daniel and Ann, she according to the Custom of Marriage assuming the surname of her Husband, as a further confirmation thereof Did then and there to these Presents sett their hands and we whose names are hereunder subscribed being among others present at the solemnization of their said Marriage and subscription. Whereas Eliz: Smith & Mary Smith the orphts lately in the Tuition of Lt CoIl Waters are decd & have left in the said Waters his Custody a Small Estate. The Court doth request the said Waters & Major Wm Andrews to make devision as equally as may bee of the said Estate and to deliver it soe devided, one moiety to Mrs Anne Mellinge widow for the use of theirs the said Elizabeth and & [sic] Mary Smiths Brother Wm Smith orpht And ye other moiety to Mrs Agnes Powell widow for the use of their sister Agnes Smith orpht & upon receipt of the same the said widowes to give under their hands to bee accomptable to the said orphts when they come to age.
