Wade Hampton Downes Hinman1
M, b. 4 July 1877, d. 14 December 1954
Birth* | 4 July 1877 | Wade Hampton Downes Hinman was born on 4 July 1877 at Accomack Co, VA. Some family members believe Tom and Wade Hinman were sons of John R. Hinman Jr. since he was closer to the age of their mother Joanna Downes. However, it is my assumption that since John R. Hinman Sr. named his son John R. Hindman Jr. in his will and did not show Thomas & Wade Downes as sons of John R. Hindman Jr., nor call them grandchildren as he did Anna Lewis & James Jackson Bloxom, who were children of his dec'd daughter Arinthia, nor refer to them as he did Emory a son of his daughter Nancy, then I'd assume (based on my experience in working with hundreds of wills over the last 35 years and this sort of thing as occurred a few times) they were his illegitimate sons by Joanna Downes. Also if they were the sons of John R. Hinman Jr., then his father would have considered them his son's responsibility and not his. Hopefully more information will be uncovered on this issue in the future to clarify the situation.4 |
Will - GrFath's* | 2 May 1878 | Wade was named in his grandfather's will on 2 May 1878 at Accomack Co, VA. In his wll John R. Hindman Sr. gave Anna Lewis and James Jackson Bloxom, the Rew land, also 10 acres called the Bagwell land, and a piece of the Summers land, about 5 acres but should they die before 21 or without issue then to my children, equally. The whole of my real estate not hereinafter disposed of to be divided equally among my children Elizabeth Taylor, John R. Hindman Jr., Nancy Lewis and Louis F. Hindman. To Emory Hindman, son of Nancy Lewis $100. To Thomas Jackson Downes and Wade Hampton Downes, children of Joanna Downes each $200. To son Louis F. Hindman my gold watch, and to my wife my gold spectacles. The residue of my estate to my children Elizabeth Taylor, John R. Hindman Jr., Nancy Lewis and Louis F. Hindman, and my 2 grandchildren Anna Lewis and James Jackson Bloxom; the 2 grandchildren to have 1/5 share divided between them. Execs. Son Louis F. Hindman and Benjamin T. Gunter. 2 May 1878. Wit: Louis C. H. Finney, Abel T. Johnson. Proved 27 May 1878. Sureties John W. Gillet, John R. Hinman Jr., Durbin H. Johnson, Augustus C. Taylor.3 |
