Since Eliza went by Major in the 1850 & 1860 census and then by Anthony in 1870 and later (after the Civil War), she had evidently married an Anthony, which was not recorded. Since she was a Free Negro, it is assumed that her husband was also a Free Negro, and the only one of record during that time was a Severn Anthony, although he was not shown in the 1840 or 1850 census or later, so I don't show him as the father of her last child James Frank Anthony (1854-1928). Severn Anthony (Free Negro)1
M, b. 1814
Birth* | 1814 | Severn Anthony (Free Negro) was born in 1814 at St. George Parish, Accomack Co, VA. Severn Anthony was born free 1814 (Register #999).3 |
Marriage* | circa 1838 | He married Eliza Major (Free Negro), daughter of Thomas Major (Free Negro) and Annis (-----) (Free Negro), circa 1838 at Accomack Co, VA. She also named a son Severn (not Levern) and there were grandchildren named Severn as well.3 |
