Mr. Peter Collins, one of the most prominent citizens of Greenbackville, VA died at his home at that place July 6th 1920, aged 76 years. Mr. Collins' death was attributable to a stroke of paralysis, and his death came suddenly after a brief illness of 24 hours. Mr. Collins was a retired oyster dealer; belonged to L.O.R.M. and was one of the oldest residents of Greenbackville. He was a man of considerable wealth and was highly esteemed and loved by everyone who knew him. He was a friend to everyone and he has left a definite impression for good on the community is which he spent his life. Funeral services were held at Greenbackville M.E. Church, Wednesday, July 7th conducted by Revs. R.W. Sutcliffe and L.W. Hess. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Samuel Risley and Mrs. Henry Doughty, two sons Messrs Nelson and Elmer Collins, one sister Mrs. Mary A. Barlow and two brothers Messrs E.W. and Isaac Collins. (NOTE: The obituary was cut from a newspaper without showing the name or date of the newspaper.) His death certificate showed him as Peter R.W. Collins, a widowed oyster planter of Greenbackville, VA, born 25 Dec 1843 in Delaware, died 6 July 1920, the son of Eli Collins & Mary Murray both born in Delaware. His death certificate shows him as Peter R.W. Collins, born 25 Dec 1843, died 7 Jul 1920 at Greenbackville, VA, the son of Eli Collins & Mary Murray.1,2 |
