It was in this year that William Kendall II gave 100 acres of this tract to John Mulls and his wife Mary, who had been Kendall's nurse, for a term of 99 years, and two years later he added 240 acres more to the first gift. Dispositions by Mulls came to 400 acres: 1697 he gave 100 acres each to daughters Sarah the wife of Paul Fabian, Frances the wife of Michael Commerick, and Mary the wife of John Hanby. 1698 Mulls (wife Mary) left a 60 acre home place to Sarah Fabian and a balance of 40 acres to another daughter Elizabeth Mulls. No transfers for any parts of this leased land were found and for lack of Mulls heirs it may have come back to the Kendall family before the lease was up.2 |

This was at Cherristone, but by 1625 it had not proven successful and had ceased to exist. For a few years after that, small parts of it were leased to planters, but even the lease method did not work, and before long permanent patents for it were granted. The plantation was called "Achomak." As the Official representative of the Governor, Wilcockes probably excerised what legal authority was necessary for the limited number of people then on the Shore.3 |
