In 1738 Nathaniel left to his brother Jacob Dewman, but the will must have been written some years earlier, as the will of Jacob was probated in 1734. In it the latter mentioned a wife Bridget and daughters Rosannah and Elizabeth. In 1752 Joachim Michael (wife Margaret) left to his son Thomas half of this land which he said he had bought from John and Rose Waterfield. But when they replied they had employed John Addison to work for them, Paddison answered it is dangerous employing the said Addison for he has the pox and hath been in Mr. Westerhouse powdering tub, upon which words they employed John Paddison and quit, forsook & left the said John Addison.3 |

Deposition | 12 September 1695 | He gave a deposition on 12 September 1695 at Accomack Co, VA. Deposition of John Addison aged about 40 years: On Saturday the second day of last February, Addison had finished his work at Mr. Tho. Teackle's house; that night Teackle's servant woman named Eliz. told him that her master's daughter Margaret Teackle had sent her for Elizabeth Parker, wife of Phillip Parker. Eliz. Parker replied that she could not come till her father came home. About an hour later Eliz. Parker with Samll. Doe and his wife and daughter came to Teackle's house bringing with them a Negro fiddler who belonged to Capt. Richard Bayley; the fiddle was sent for afterwards. James Fairfax came to retrieve the fiddle an unknown person , but Elizabeth Parker said she had borrowed the fiddler from her sister Ursula Bayly, wife of Richard Bayly, and that he should not go. She "pulled out a bit of Spanish money out of her pocket & gave [it to] ye fiddler in [my] sight to oblige him to stay, & thereupon the fiddler stayed, and ye said Elizabeth Parker and company stayed till ye next Sabbath day after breakfast till about ten or eleven a clock in ye forenoon, when [I] went away with them." Elizabeth Parker and the others had "continued dancing & merry most of the Saturday night whilest [I] stayed up in the parlor of the said Mr. Teackle's dwelling house." When Addison, who had forgotten his belt, went up to get it from Mr. Teackle's parlor chamber (where he had slept), he saw Mr. Teackle's daughter "Margret Teackle sitting by a trunk crying bitterly." Eliz. Parker and Mary Doe were with her, "pitying the said young gentlewoman." When Addison asked "the occasion of her lamentation, [she] replied the trunk was open and she could not lock it nor get the key out and therefore wished herself dead for fear or dread of her father's anger, or to that effect. Striving to get out the key, some of them were concluding to send ye lock to ye smith, taking the key to be broke in it." When Margaret said she had no money to pay the smith, Eliz. Parker offered to lend her a bit or two, but "presently ye said Mr. Teackle's mulatto Hugh came up into ye chamber and took ye lock off and mended the lock and wards of the key and put it on again and locked it. And on the Sabbath day after [I] had eat [my] breakfast and was ready to come away with ye rest of the company, the said M[istress] Margaret Teackle was lamenting and crying as much or more than she did before. [I] asked her ye reason & she replied she had lost the key of the trunk wherein her father put all his keys. And so [we] left her." Signed and sworn on 12 September 1695, by John Addison before John Robins, Wm. Kendall, Wm. Waters and Ralph Pigot, who had been commissioned to take the deposition by Col. Cha. Scarburgh. (NOTE: The men who were commissioned to take the deposition were from Northampton County, as that was where John Addison was living.)6 |

M, b. circa 1700
Birth* | circa 1700 | John Eshon was born circa 1700 at Northampton Co, VA.1 |
Anecdote* | 18 June 1718 | On 18 June 1718 in N'hamp Court the will of Daniell Eshon was presented by his widow and Extr Jean Eshon and the heir-at-law John Eshon who made objection to the proving of that part of his father's will in which he gave away the land from me which did not belong to him to give away to another but him which land was given to him the said John Eshon by his grandfather.2 |
Will - Father's* | 10 August 1718 | John was named in his father's will on 10 August 1718 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son John in the will of Daniel Eshon, wife Jane. He was given the 200 acre plantation (tract N122) whereon I now dwell after my wife's decease. He was to also pay 600#t owed to John White and to be at age when he has finished the crop.3 |
Marriage | circa 1722 | He married Elizabeth (-----) circa 1722.1 |
Land sold* | 1725 | John Eshon sold land in 1725 at tract N122, west of Exmore, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that John Eshon and his wife Elizabeth Eshon sold 100 acres on Green's Branch to Thomas Joynes Jr., but 3 years later he sold it back to John Isham. At the same time as the sale to Joynes, the Eshons sold the other 100 acres to John Addison, but no further record was found of his ownership here, or concerning the 100 acres which had been bought back from Joynes. But in 1754 Edward Turner (wife Sarah) left to his son John a 340-acre plantation which he said he had formerly belonged to John Eshon. Judging from descriptions in later transactions for this land it appears to have comprised the 300 acres of the Rodolphus patent and 40 aces more, either found within the bounds or taken from an adjacent tract. There was no local deed to Turner for any part of it, so that he may have acquired part or all by marriage or General Court deeds.1 |
Marriage* | circa 1726 | He married Sarah (of Edwd I) Turner, daughter of Edward Turner I and Judith 'Judy' Hack, circa 1726 at Northampton Co, VA. The assumption for this marriage is based on the fact that Edward Turner, wife Sarah, who died in 1754 and left 340 aces of formerly John Eshon's land to his son John, probably inherited that land from his sister Sarah who was John Eshon's second wife and she came by it as his widow.1,4 |
Anecdote* | October 1735 | In Oct 1735 in N'hamp Court Arthur Mackallan submits his account vs. John Eshon for £3.19.3. It shows a variety of household items: yeard goods, utensils, milk pans, dish, 2 stone cups, stockings and a hat, corn salt; moneys paid for the individuals for the said Eshon and several entries for indigo. Case dismissed.5 |
Anecdote | September 1736 | In Oct 1736 in N'hamp Court Solomon Eshon sues John Eshon for 1 mare sold to the said John in 1735 for 600 pence; 100 pence paid. The said John refuses to pay the balance due. Case agreed and dismissed.6 |
