In his will John Lecatt gave son John Lecatt 100 acres where he now lives, reversion to grandson Leven Lecatt. To son Littleton Lecatt 208 acres where he now lives. To son Joseph Lecatt 200 acres in Sommerset County, Maryland, adjcent the lands given my son Littleton. To son Nathaniel Lecatt all the land I hold lying on Pocomoke Branch where I now live containing 300 acres Gun marked "B.L." "whereas my son Charles Lecatt sometime ago went to Sea, and not having any certain account whether he be living or dead", in case the said Charles should return within 10 years from this date, my son Nathaniel to give him a good and sufficient maintenance out of the estate above given him, the said Nathaniel. To son in law John Rowles. To daughter Tabitha Rowles. Grandaughter Patience Rowles. Grandaughters Rachel & Jane Rowles. Land inherited* | 1748 | He inherited land in 1748 at tract A35, Pungoteague, Accomack Co, VA. In 1748 John Lecatt Sr. left lands in Maryland to his sons John, Littleton & Joseph, while to his son Nathaniel he left "all the land I hold on Pocomoke Branch where I now live containing 300 acres." This bequest to Nathaniel was entailed to his male heirs, but if there were none such, then it was to revert to his brother Joseph and his male heirs. Also if son Charles Lecatt returns son Nathaniel was to give him a good and sufficient maintenance out of the estate above given to Nathaniel. Charles did return and Nathaniel must have given him land instead of a cash maintenance.3 |
Marriage* | circa 1755 | He married Esther Hornsby, daughter of James Hornsby and Rachel (-----), circa 1755.4 |

The land was at the southern end of the tract and was bounded on the land of Augustine Lecatt, who continued to be the owner of the rest of the land for some years. Augustine was a son of Joseph, the brother of Nathaniel who did not die until 1766, apparently unmarried and without children. The fact that Augustine was already in possession, before the death of his uncle Nathaniel, suggests that he latter may have turned the land over to Augustine as Joseph's son, at the same time that he gave the part to Charles, upon his return from the sea.3 |
