Death* | 28 July 1916 | Francis Ames 'Frank' Shield died on 28 July 1916 at Wilmington, New Castle Co, DE, at age 61. The town and community were shocked last Saturday morning when the news came that Mr. Frank Shield had died early that morning in Wilmington, Del. He was the fifth son of the late Samuel K. and Mary G. Ames Shield, and was born in 1864 near Belle Haven, VA. Born of sainted parents, he was a man of devout and sympathetic character, full of zeal and optimism and a true Christian gentleman in every sense of the word. But the qualities which gave to his life its special distinction were his self forgetfulness, his thoughtfulness for others and his faith in God. His walking in the footsteps of Christ was the secret of his own strength and it was the secret of his helpfulness to others. We all mourn his loss, but we rejoice with him in the sure hope of resurrection into Eternal Life. His body was brought here Sunday afternoon and the funeral was from the M.E. Church, South, at 4 o'clock. Interment was in Belle Haven Cemetery. A wife, three sons, one sister and six brothers survive him.2,3 |
