Court - namd in suit | 2 December 1686 | He was named in a lawsuit on 2 December 1686 at Accomack Co, VA. At the last court Arnold Harrison's suit against George Hazelip was deferred for want of a jury. Harrison accused Hazelip using dogs to drive and worry Harrison's mare into Andua Creek where she drowned. At this court the jury found for Harrison and awarded him 400 lbs tobacco damages with the costs of the suit. The court confirmed the verdict, which was signed by Will. Burton, and ordered George Hazelip to pay the sum. Deposition of John Raby aged about 59 years: Las June Raby saw George Hazelup (overseer of Mr. Thomas James' plantation at Andua) drive several horses into Andua Creek with dogs; Hazelup cried "Holla." Raby saw no more till the mare was drowned. Signed 2 December 1686 by John (O) Raby. Deposition of William Meredith aged about 30 years: About last June, several horses were grazing around the house of Mr. Thomas James. George Hazelup set a dog upon the horses and drove them into Andua Creek. Meredith heard Hazelup say "Borson to the said dog" which then followed the horses into the creek. Meredith "saw a mare perishing in the creek" and later learned it belonged to Arnold Harrison, who came that night and asked how the mare had drowned. When Hazelup saw the mare in the creek, he took the canoe and tried to save her but could not. Hazelup later "coming into the house, he laid himself down." Meredith's wife asked him what the matter was, "to which he answered that he wished himself in England again." Mrs. Meredith said, "What is the matter? You are so melancholy, George, are you in love?" Hazelup answered, "No." Signed 2 December 1686, by William Meredith.7 |

Birth* | circa 1689 | William Groten I was born circa 1689 at Accomack Co, VA. There is no direct proof that this William Groten was the son of William Groten and his wife Mary, the widow of Isaac Dix. Placing him as their son is based only on the fact that William & Mary Groten were the only Grotens in Accomack County records about the time of his birth that could have been his parents. |

Marriage* | circa 1745 | He married Keziah Parker, daughter of Sacker Parker and Leah Laylor, circa 1745. There is not direct proof that Solomon Kellam's 1st marriage was to Keziah Parker, or even someone with the given name Keziah. The Accomack County deed book indexes does not show a Solomon Kellam either buying or selling land before 1800, so we could not find a wife releasing her dower rights. However in trying to find why he named a son Sacker there is at least this one scenario (there could be others) that he had married this Keziah Parker. Her father was named Sacker Parker and his mother was Bridget Sacker and she had a brother named Sacker Parker. She also had a sister Sinah Parker, that would have been another candiate for the mother of Sacker Kellem, but Sinah was named as Sinah Parker in the will of her uncle Bayly Johnson in 26 Mar 1761, which was after the birth of Sacker Kellam. |
