The slaves desecnded to the said Frances and her two sisters, Rachel and Joanna, infants under age 21. The three daughters were coheirs subject to the dowwer of their mother, Susanna. The said Susanna vested herself of the slaves as administrix of the estate and guardian of the three daughters. She soon married John Ellegood. Nathan Wilkins, brother to the above Jonathan and Uncle to Frances, Rachel & Jonna died in 1747 (adm 8 Mar 1747) unmarried. His sundry slaves (Mary & Dinah, woman & a girl) descended to the three Wilkins sisters. The said John Ellegood, after the death of his wife Susanna, held possession of all the slaves as guardian. However, Frances, after the death of her mother, chose John Smaw as her guardian. Since then she has frequently applied to her sisters, Rachel and Joanna for a partition of the slaves and their increase now living: Leah, Jack, Daniel, Esther, Ben and ... (paper torn). This petition asks the Court to order a division. Filed 15 May 1754 & the partition was ordered.2 |
