Anecdote | 16 September 1665 | On 16 Sep 1665 John Studson, who recently died, had owned cattle that were now in the possession of Mary Paramore. The cattle derived from a heifer and cow calf given to Studson by John Robinson, deceased, on the condition that the cattle return to Robinson if Studson were to die in his minority without issue. Capt. Jno. Custis, on behalf of Robinson's orphans, petitioned the court for the return of the cattle. Ordered that Mary Paramore deliver the cattle and pay court costs. The Northampton County deed of gift, signed 11 November 1653, by John Robinson, planter, specified the following: - to his son John Robinson, Jr.: one red cow called Husse, one black heifer, one pied cow calf, to have forever - to his son Wm. Robinson: one pied heifer, to have forever - to John Studson, son of John Studson, deceased: one pregnant red heifer, one brown cow calf, to have under the same conditions as Mary. - to Mary Studson, daughter of John Studson, deceased: one pregnant red and white cow, to have forever unless she died in her minority or without issue, then the cattle and their increase would return to John Robinson, Sr., or his heirs. Witnessed by Thomas Johnson and Alphonsus Ball. Recorded by Edm. Mathews. (NOTE: So evidently he died under age and without heirs and so his circa birth year of 1646 seems reasonable.)7 |

John Robinson I
M, b. 1618, d. before 28 January 1661/62
Birth* | 1618 | John was born in 1618.1 |
Land patented* | 1645 | He patented land in 1645 at tract N110, Silver Beach, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that a patent was issued to one John Robins for 100 acres in this area. No further reference was found to a man of that name here, but this name may have been used by mistake for that of the John Robinson who thought he had bought 250 acres from Leonard Pettock. In 1654 Francis Yardley sold 300 acres to John Robinson, which perhaps perfected his title to his own patent and the land supposedly bought from Pettock. In 1662 John Robinson (wife Mary) left his home plantation to his son William, provided he would make over to two other unnamed sons a patent at Onancock. This latter was a part of tract A61 which had an involved early history, in which it will later be told how in 1681 a Richard Robinson tried unsuccessfully to prove his title to the part of it mentioned in the above will of John Robinson. Nothing more was noted concerning Wiliam Robinson or the other brother, but later on, Richard Robinson was the owner of this family home land.2 |
