He was shown as my son Thomas and given Negro fellow Abraham, 6 silver table spoons and 6 silver teaspoons in the will of Arthur Robins, wife Zillor. His wife Lotice was loaned 400 acres as long as she remained his son's widow and then to be divided by his children. According to Whitelaw, Arthur III had laid out a part of his land at tract A1C for his son Thomas in 1790 and the survey showed the land to be 400 acres, which were at the northeast corner of the whote plantation. No deed was ever given to Thomas and apparently he died soon afterwards, as in 1792 Arthur Robins devised the land to Lettice Robins, so long as she remained the widow of his son Thomas, and then it was to go to their children. Whitelaw failed to check the 1802 will of Thomas' brother Arthur wherein he named his bother Thomas as living and left all his land to his brother's 4 sons Arthur, Isaac, John and Bowdin Robins..1,4 |

He told John that he had seen a deer in the pasture; they decided "to go into the pasture and there stand to kill the deer, and also my father did advise my two brothers, William and Richard Sturgis, to go into the pasture another way to drive the deer thence, supposing the deer would come by either [me] or by [my] father, my two brothers before named, being each of them upon a mare." They "had not long been upon the design" when John heard a gunshot. He went toward the noise, supposing his father had killed a deer, but when he got there, he "saw his father with my brother William Sturgis in his arms, my father crying and lamenting in a distracted condition, and immediately [I] mounted the mare and took my brother William before me and carried him home, and presently my father sent me to Gargaphia to fetch some comfortable means for my brother Wm. They also had other children, including a daughter Bathsheba who married Levin Dix, whom she survived. No record was found of how the land passed from William Sturgis Jr. to his sister Bathsheba Dix, But in ther will of 1799 she directed that this land be sold and it was purchased by Richard Drummond of Norfolk.1 |
