Anecdote* | | According to Whitelaw, the use of the "alias Wadlow" was continued by numerous descendants in various documents, down to about 1800. That name has not been accounted for, and no connection between him and Nicholas Waddilow was discovered, but they may have been brothers. He must have been a man of unusual energy and ability, and among his other capablities was included that of a surveyor, and in 1664 Edmund Scarburgh appointed him his deputy, to survey all Accomack County lands. He laid out the original towns of Port Scarburgh (Onancock) and on the Secretery's Land (N39), as well as the old Wallop's road which now is largely the present U.S. Route 13.4 |

Secondly – I give and bequeath unto my son Skinner Wallop als Wadlow nineteen hundred eighty & five acres of land or thereabouts be it more or less situated on the east & southeast side of Gingoteague Creek on the main land of Accomack County in Virginia bounding southwest on the northeastern bounds of four hundred acres of land which I shall in the third clause next following give unto my daughter Sarah Wallop alias Wadlow bounded on the north west & north east by Gingoteague Creek on the south east by part of Gingoteague Channel running between of the Sea Side to a little (gut) that is narrow & short & runs into Perrimonsessens Bay or Shallow Sound and partly by the said Little Gut and Shallow Sound & a creek running through marshes unto the mouth of the Tanfatt branch also I give unto my said son Skinner Wallop als Wadlow my house on Mr. Anderson’s plantation at Crooked Creek in Accomack County and the land thereunto belonging also I give unto him my post & rail pen on the Sand bank at the mouth of the ditch in my old pasture & the land within the said pen for a landing place to land or boat off horses cattle sheep hogs & other creatures goods or passengers with privilege of egress & regress at all & every time or times thereunto and from. To have & to hold the said nineteen hundred eighty five acres of land more or less & the said house at Mr. Andersons plantation at Crooked Creek with the land belonging to the said house & the pen for and landing place as aforesaid with the privileges as aforesaid unto him the said Skinner Wallop als Wadlow for and during his natural life the remainder to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten the remainder to my daughter Sarah Wallop als Wadlow & to the heirs of her body lawfully begotten the Reversion in fee to my heirs at common law. Thirdly – I give & bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Wallop als Wadlow fo(--) hundred acres of land it being the southwestern part of my two thousand three hundred eighty & five acres of land at Gingoteague on the main land of Accomack County in Virginia bounding southwest on the land that was formerly Charles Ratc(----) & now James Glenns southeast on the Sea Side northwest on Gingoteague creek north east by the tann fatt branch running up (----) Branch unto a path that passes over that branch at the northwest end of the trees of the branch and from thence by a right line to Gingoteague Creek to be drawn by such a course of land to have & to hold the said four hundred acres of land to the said Sarah Wallop als Wadlow for & during her natural life the remainder to the heirs of her body the remainder to my son Skinner Wallop als Wadlow & to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten The Revision in fee simple to my heirs at common law excepting (--) privileges & what I have in the second clause next above given to my son Skinner Wallop als Wadlow as it is therein expressed. Fourthly – I give & bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Wallop als Wadlow two thousand acres more or less on my land formerly called Keeckotanck Island situated on the Seaboard Side in Accomack County & being at the (------) of the next Gut Southward without my pasture on the said Island & thence de(-----) from five hundred acres of land which I in the fifth clause give to my son Skinner Wallop als Wadlow by lines & courses as follows: first south east ------------- poles then --------------------- poles also I give unto my daughter Sarah Wallop als Wadlow a privilege for a landing in my pen at Cowpen Gutt on the said Island for the landing & (--------) with privileges of egress & regress at all & every time & times thereunto and from To have & to hold the said two thousand acres of land more or less with the privileges aforesaid unto the said Sarah Wallop alias Wadlow for & during her natural life the remainder to the heirs of her body lawfully begotten the remainder to my son Skinner Wallop als Wadlow & to the heirs of her body lawfully begotten the Reversion in fee simple to my heirs at common law. Fifthly – I give & bequeath unto my son Skinner Wallop als Wadlow five hundred acres of land more or less on my Island called Kecotanck Island situated on the Seaboard Side in Accomack County and beginning at the head of the next gut southward without my pasture on the said Island and thence divided from two thousand acres of land which I the fourth clause give to my daughter Sarah Wallop als Wadlow by lines or courses as follows: first southeast ------------ poles then --------------- to have & to hold the five hundred acres of land with all privileges thereunto belonging (excepting the privileges & what I have in the fourth clause above given to my daughter Sarah Wallop Wadlow for & during his natural live the remainder to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten the reversion in fee simple to my heirs at common law. Sixthly – I give & bequeath unto my son Skiner Wallop als Wadlow all my carts cartwheels collars back bands traces reap hooks, syths shovels spades axes grubbing axes hoes grubbing hoes saws ploughs wedges nails guns swords belts pistols all surveying instruments chains dividers rules white paper or other tools or things belonging to surveying sawed boards or planks mens saddles stilliards can hooks & peas, weights & scales drawing knifes adsis augurs gimlets hammers coopers joynters & tools carpenters & joyners tools bottles pots gallee pots earthen pans & all chemical vessels whatsoever & all my minerals & drugs all my books manuscripts & writing papers except what books in the seventh clause I give to my daughter & except my account books & bills or other papers concerning what I owe and what is owing to me, as also I give my smith bellows my weavers loom my copper still which shall all which bellows loom and still though fixed in my houses shall be by him or his order taken down and carried away & also I give him all my iron & steel both new & old & all my smiths tools & the chest in the barn with all things in it & also all my weavers tools & geers all my whale oyle, & all my tools belonging to tanning curing or dressing of white leather all my alum my worn & worn tub all my lead whether in bollets shot slugs pugs &c all my powder my silver or gold in gnome or masses that is in the under till of my great chest all my weeding plowes & weeding plow hoes whether old or new all mens cloths in the house whether hats linen or woolen and whether it was mine of belonging to my 2 sons that are dead my tobacco pipe clay my tobacco pipe moulds with all things belonging to them & all my chests boxis & cask which hath in them any of the above mentioned things, and also my mill & peckers my mortars & pestells whether they be of glass or bell mettell my old looking glass although out of place through forgetfulness I do give & bequeath unto my son Skinner my mulatto Frank to serve him according to law for slaves and my negro woman slave called black Sara unto my son Skiner Wallop als Wadlow to serve him according to the custom of Virginia slaves and my two negro women the one called Hager & the other called Nanne I give to my daughter Sarah. Seventhly – I give & bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Wallop alias Wadilow my warming pan chest of drawers best looking glass my side saddle & pillion my new trunk great table in the parlor my 2 best linen wheels & one woolen wheel with which belongs to them my (-----------------------------) Bible that was her mothers (------) books called the (-----------------) Countess of Kents choice marvels and my pewter vessels sizers needles (---) thimbles all the womens clothes whether her own or her mothers whether (--) linen or of woolen all my silver lace fine white thread & whited (------) thread.
