Land bought* | 1722 | Thomas James bought land in 1722 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that Thomas James bought 400 acres of tract N116 (on the Bay Side near Jamesville) from Obedience Johnson, this was the strip north of N116A extending from the western to the eastern bounds of his land. The next year James received a patent for it as 284 acres, apparently all that could be found by a survey. When he later died intestate he was succeeded by a son Robet. In 1738 Obedience Johnson left to his son Richard 75 acres that I recovered by law of Thomas James Executrix. A record of such a suit could not be found, nor any disposition by the son Robert, but 5 years later one John Riggs sold it to Robert James as 77 acres, saying he had bought it from Richard Johnson. Robert James also died intestate and was succeeded by a a son Thomas James, who added this to his holdings by acquiring a part of N103, but he also died intestate in 1818.8 |
