Biography* | 1893 | Count di Brazza-Savorgnan of Italy and his wife, who had been Cora Ann Slocomb of New Orleans, Louisiana, attended The World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, 1893, together, where he represented his country, Italy, in the Agricultural Congress, and she lectured on Life of the Italian Women in the Country, and served as President of The Committee of Italian Ladies Formed for the Exhibition of Italian Laces. Their exhibition, given in the Women's Building, was large, interesting and valuable in different senses. There were fifty-seven exhibitors, who received thirty-three medals, and the Countess Cora Slocomb di Brazza received medal for the collection of antique lace, and another for her book especially written for the occasion entitled, Old and New Lace in Italy, 'a learned treatise on textile art.' She is a pleasing, forceful writer. She published in 1896 a 12mo volume of 244 pages entitled An American Idyll, Boston, The Arena Publishing Company. In 1897 she was one of the prime movers in the International Peace Arbitration Movement, lecturing in Chicago in its interest. Its offices are in Washington, D.C. and Bern, Switzerland. County di Brazza was Present of the International Postal Union in 1897.4 |
