Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine and his sister, Lena Mister. Funeral services and in interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley. |

Born in Craddockville, Virginia on July 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Madeline West Truitt. Her husband, Carlton Drewer, died June 8, 2004. She was retired from Rubberset Division of Sherwin Williams, Crisfield, MD. She was previously employed at the old Crisfield Shirt Factory. She loved showering her family and friends with baked goodies, especially during the holidays, and mowing her lawn on her riding lawn mower. Most of all, she was a wonderful Mom, Grandmom, Great-Grandmom, Sister, and a friend to many. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Drewer Tarr and husband Rudy of Suffolk, Va; her son, Donnie Drewer and wife Betsy of Delmar, MD; five grandchildren, Bruce Sterling and wife Sandy of Pungoteague, VA, Steve Sterling and wife Trish of Chesapeake, VA, Rick Sterling and wife Traci of Blacksburg, VA, Dr. Beth Drewer and friend Alex McRae of Salisbury, MD, and Amanda Raschka and husband Matt of Ellicott City, MD; six great grandchildren, Sam Sterling, Carlton Sterling, Kyle Sterling, Eli Sterling, Drew Raschka and Anna Raschka; a brother Eddie Truitt and wife Linda Sue of Pungoteague, VA; her sister-in-law, June Drewer of Crisfield; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a great- grandson, Troy Mason Sterling. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 2 PM at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Crisfield, MD where friends may call one hour prior to service. The Rev. Bob Daniels will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park near Crisfield. |

Alan is survived by his loving wife, Lora Durkin Drewer and was an adored father of three sons from his first marriage, Matthew Drewer of San Diego, CA, Patrick and Joseph Drewer of Falls Church, VA; his brother, Milton L. Drewer, III of Bluffton, SC; sister, Carol Drewer Mortensen of Naples, FL; and sister-in-law, Sharon Darlington Drewer of Arlington, VA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Alan was an avid Washington Capitals fan and passionate about his golf game. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Pender United Methodist Church, 12401 Alder Woods Drive, Fairfax, VA.
