Mrs. Estelle Hall Linton, 93, wife of the late Nathaniel Nacey Linton and a native of Sanford, VA, passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 at Heritage Hall Nursing Center, in Nassawadox, VA. Born March 24, 1925 in Sanford, she was the daughter of the late Bernard K. Hall, Sr. and Nellie Mildred Hall. Estelle worked for the former R&G Shirt Factory, in Parksley, VA, and later worked at the Saxis Crab Shack. Always dressed to impress, Estelle loved getting dolled up and looked forward to going out on the town, or as she would say, “Going off.” With her infamous smile and loving nature, Estelle enjoyed entertaining and loved having visitors. She will be greatly missed, but will be forever remembered by loved ones. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Linton of Sanford; two granddaughters, Sandy Turner and husband Phil of Salisbury, MD, and Lisa Hillary of Oak Hall, VA; three great-granddaughters, Crystal Hillary, Sara Straw, and Danielle Nicole Turner; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a brother, Bernard K. Hall, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the John W. Taylor Cemetery, in Temperanceville, VA, on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Wayne Hart officiating. Ms. Nancy Elmira Linton Gladding, 70, native of Sanford, Va., passed Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Arcadia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Nelsonia, Va. Born February 3, 1946 in Sanford, she was a daughter of Estelle Hall Linton, resident of Arcadia Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of Sanford, and the late Nathaniel Nacey Linton. Elmira was a loving mother, friend, companion, and proudly dedicated her life to serving the Lord. She was a longtime former member of Sanford United Methodist Church and current member of Pocomoke United Methodist Church. Elmira attended Sunday school every week and Bible school every summer, was a member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship program, was the children’s choir leader, and was on the Bible School Refreshments Committee. At eight years old, she became one of the church’s pianists. Over the years, she continued to play piano for hymn sings, revivals, and funeral services from Cape Charles, Va. to Crisfield, Md. Elmira’s legacy of commitment to her faith will live on in the over 100 religious poems she wrote throughout her lifetime. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Hillary of Oak Hall, Va., and Sandy Turner and husband Phil of Salisbury, Md; her sister, Barbara Linton, resident of Arcadia Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of Sanford; and three granddaughters, Crystal Hillary, Sara Straw, and Danielle Nicole Turner. Other than her father, she was predeceased by her long time companion, friend, and father to her children, Alvah Bloxom Killmon. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Parksley Cemetery on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Maury Enright officiating. There will be a visitation at the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Elmira to Arcadia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, P.O. Box 97, Nelsonia, Va. 23414. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Chance Holston; a great-granddaughter, Madalynn Allshouse; a brother, Erwin Taylor. Surviving is his wife, Margaret Shelton Taylor; children, Chastity Hinson, Ray Velbis, Christina and Matthew W. Allshouse; grandchildren, Little Ray Velbis, Charles Velbis, Matthew C. and Jenna Allshouse, Brandon and Chelsea Allshouse, Ethan and Katelynn Allshouse, Nickoli Velbis, Cameron Martin, Patrick Hogan, Hannah Allshouse, and Hailey Martin; great-grandchildren, Brendan Velbis, Joshua Velbis , Daniel Allshouse, Alexis Allshouse, Kinsley Allshouse, and Mason Allshouse is on the way. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, January 31, 2021, in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Zephyr Cemetery. Rev. Craig Key will officiate the services. Biography* | | According to Bible records, Arinthia Dora Hall was born either 17 Aug 1880 or 19 Aug 1881. According to her daughter, Naomi May Godwin's records she was born 17 Aug 1881, but Acc Birth Records shows 15 Aug 1881. Mrs. Arinthia Dora Hall Godwin, daughter of the late Cephus C. Hall and Mary Northam, his wife, and the wife of Mr. Charlie S. Godwin, of Sanford, VA, died Friday, 23 Jun 1922, at 11:40 a.m. after a very serious operation at the Peninsula Genreal Hospital at Salisbury, MD. She was operated on Thursday at noon and lived just 24 hours afterwards. She was 41 years of age. Funeral services were held at Sanford M.E. Church, South, on Sunday afternoon, 25 Jun, at 2 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. H.L. Hastings. Interment was made in Myrtle Wood Cemetery, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 1 Jul 1922). Evidently she was moved as she is now buried at J.W. Taylor Cemetery. |

Biography* | | Mr. Edward Thomas McCready died at his home, 309 Fitzwater Street, Salisbury, MD, on Sunday morning, 15 Apr 1946, in his 80th year of age. He was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. William McCready and was born and reared in Sanford, Acc Co, VA. A carpenter by trade, in World War I he moved to Pocomoke City, MD, to work in the shipyard there. When that was discontinued he moved to Salisbury and had lived there until his death. He was twice married, his first wife being the former Miss Annie Hall of Sanford. There were three children born of this union. His second wife was the former Mrs. Sallie Smith of Salisbury, MD. There was no issue by this marriage. His home while he lived in Sanford was a delightful rendezvous for all the young people for a Sunday night "sing" of an old-fashioned taffy pulling. Funeral services were held at Sanford Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. R.F. Bryan. Burial was made in the family cemetery on "Mulberry Hill" at Sanford. Survivors included a wife, 1 son, 2 daughters, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Irving Adkins of Pocomoke; a step-son; 2 brothers; 4 half-brothers; and 3 half-sisters, all of who were named; and 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchild, who were not named (obituary, unknown newspaper). |

Death* | 9 March 1895 | John died on 9 March 1895 at First District, Acc Co, VA, at age 22. John F. Williams was drowned in Pocomoke Sound Saturday morning, 9 Mar 1895, by the capsizing of his canoe. When it was known that his boat had capsized, and he was thought to be drowned, a rescuing party in three canoes went in search of the body. The canoe was found and with it the body of brother Williams, with his feet tangled in the foresail halyards. The body was taken to the deceased's brother's home near Sanford, where a large number of sorrowing friends were. His funeral was prepared at Sanford M.E. Church South, Rev. J. D. C. Butts of Accomac Circuit, and Rev. M. L. Williams of Syke's Mission, each delivered an address. Brother Williams was a member of the Epworth League and a member of the Accomac Tent, Number 79, Independent Order Rechobites. Each has lost a good member. In 1910 she married George W. Bell of Northampton, who did several years ago. Was blind for 25 years. Survivors included 2 sisters and 1 brother.
